Yesterday, Monday, was the start of my second week of classes. Upon going through the syllabus for my Creative Writing class, I realized that the class just wasn’t going to be as much fun as I had hoped. As I mentioned before, my teacher has a really dull and annoying voice, and I don’t like the vibe of the class and the students in the class, but I was excited to learn more about writing creatively! I always like to write stories, I come up with great places and ideas, but I can never seem to finish them. I was really looking forward to learning more in this class, but for every day we are assigned a reading and are required to write a response about it. And with that, we also are required to write ... read more

Sunday KEI took us on a field trip to a park about 15 minutes from out apartments. It’s right off the main road that is always busy with traffic, but there’s a huge field in front, maybe two football fields in length, that sets the actual park away from the road. You drive down a wooded path, or walk through OZ, down a yellow brick road lined with trees and carved bushes. Once you enter the park, the sounds of the road are almost indistinct, and the songs of birds that are foreign to me, take over. This is actually the same park that Oak brought me to last week, the same one with the giant Buddha – I’ll get to that. I want to teach you how to read Thai words, because they are really ... read more

This week went by so much faster than last week! I actually had things to do and a schedule to carry me through the week instead of just playing around and doing whatever, as I did last week. Before school started though, I was so unbelievably nervous that I hardly got any sleep at all! At the time I thought I was just nervous about finding my classes and getting to campus, but I think it was a lot more than that. I think I was realizing, maybe subconsciously, that I was actually beginning this journey. The reason I’m here is to go to school, not to play around and have a wild time (even though that is very much a part of it – just not the main reason); and I’m going to be going ... read more

The last few days have been kinda strange for me, I slept until 2:00pm one day and when I woke up everyone was gone! The night before I had stayed at a friends who lives in a different housing complex and I didn’t want to walk home at night, but when I got back to my room in the morning, my roommate was gone. I assumed maybe she stayed out too because she rarely ever wakes up early. I didn’t think much of it, closed the blinds and fell back asleep until 2:00pm! When I woke up my roommate still wasn’t around and I was starting to wonder where everyone was. No one on my floor was home and Marisa wasn’t home either (she’s from CIS, another study abroad program and is on the floor beneath ... read more

New Years in Bangkok! Started off the day having mimosa’s on the roof of our building. I think there are about 20 of us KEI-ers and we all went up stairs to have our morning drink, even though they weren’t actually mimosa’s because we couldn’t find champagne, they were just white wine and whatever juice we had! Lol, but good! Everyone ended up getting really sleepy and taking naps in different places. I fell asleep on a picnic table, originally in the shade, but woke up in full sun! My chest and arms are really red! My face is a little red too but doesn’t look as bad I don’t think. I put a bunch of aloe on immediately so we’ll see what happens, hopefully it will turn to tan soon. Oh yeah, we ordered pizza ... read more

I woke up at 8:00am today, for some reason 2 hours of sleep seems to be doing me well. Can’t say why though. Went to the gym and worked out! It was nice, the gym has good equipment but it’s hot!! There’s an AC unit per treadmill/elliptical but the weight machines are underneath the AC units so you don’t feel the cold air on and you have to turn them on individually, there isn’t AC for the gym itself. Anyway, I had a good workout. I came home and showered and Sidney was awake and getting ready to go out. Her friend Julia – who is also studying at Mahidol but with a different program and is staying in our building – wanted to get some breakfast so we all got ready and went down to ... read more

I just lost everything I wrote because the wifi here is so stupid it kicks me off all the time and I have to re-log-in like every 15 minutes. So I’m typing this in word and then I’ll copy and paste. So anyway, what I had written was that last night we arrived at Bangkok at 11:45pm, me and Elijah and Garret who had all flown together since Dallas. By the time we went through immigration/customs, baggage claim and walked all the way down the airport to where we would be picked up, it was at least an hour later. We stood in a group with KEI and other students with different programs and once everyone was there our driver took us out to the van that would take us to our final destinations. Walking outside ... read more

Im dead. Im dead Im dead I died Im dead. Thank you Marlin for those wise words of wisdom - thats exactly how I feel. I really have no idea why or how I'm functioning right now, I've had maybe 4.5-5 hours of sleep - interrupted sleep - in the last 24 hours. I feel like a zombie, mentally and physically and everything. My throat and nose are so dry from the long plane ride, my legs hurt and my head is all foggy. Man, 17 hours on a plane is like... death. I managed to get about 2 hours of sleep in towards the end there, which included tossing and turning and finding a new position every 15 minutes. I want to sleep so much right now but I still have like 4 more hours ... read more

It’s about 5:30pm and we have just a little over 11 hours left… So far I’ve watched two movies and knitted a bunch. I had a glass of wine, I just got up and stretched and have lent two pepogest to a friend in need! My seat is a mess - my blanket is strewn everywhere and I hardly put anything back in my backpack so there’s just a bunch of shit shoved under my seat. I think I can do this for 11 more hours. It’s definitely about time to take a nap, they dimmed the cabin lights just a few minutes ago. We are currently flying somewhere over Canada and the North Pole it seems like lol. We are going North and then West so as to not cross the entire pacific ocean I ... read more

These are the brief messages I wrote myself on my phone while in flight. Didn't feel like taking my computer out again lol. Also, the times are Dallas times so, yeah. On the plane: (10:42) N by NW is a really good movieN but it's loooong Also, does 2001 a space odyssey even have dialogue??? I see now why mom said it's best watched on drugs lol (11:14) Omg jet lag is a real thing. I've only slept like maybe three hours. I'm so confused as to what time it really is and if I should be sleeping or not. My watch says 1:14 and I set that to HK time, but it can't be 11:15 in Louisville already! Actually, I guess it's 12:15 in Louisville cuz my phone is still on Dallas time. Omg time ... read more
