Sept 28: Today we left for our 11 year late honeymoon. We flew Edmonton – Calgary and then on to Frankfurt. We were able to upgrade using Claude’s Air Canada Elite points so we had business class from there to Germany. That was very nice. They were the new “pods” so your chair had little partial walls around it like a mini cubicle and it laid back completely flat like a bed for sleeping. They served us a lovely dinner then we went to sleep (or at least I tried to), and then we woke up to a nice hot breakfast just before we landed. It was a 9+ hr flight. Landed in Florence at around 2 in the afternoon. Caught a cab to the hotel. Hotel Albani Firenze. The hotel is right down town, close ... read more

It seems like it was a long time coming, but when we crossed the border into Alberta today, boy did it feel good. It was a great year in Quebec, but by this point we were all very excited to be home. Claude has been saying that he could smell home since we crossed into the prairies and today we finally made it home! It is funny but when you have been gone so long, it really seemed great to catch the first glimpse of Edmonton as we approached. We had left last year with our last dinner being with family at the Asian Village on the west end. Our favorite Indian restaurant. Claude had been craving their food since we left so we detoured on our way through Edmonton to have dinner there today before ... read more

It was a full day’s drive from Ottawa to Sudbury on Saturday. We arrived at supper time. We spent the first night in a hotel in Sudbury. Using Claude’s points we stayed in the very nice and very new Homewood Suites for just $5. It was great having a room with a separate bedroom from the boys so we could get some work done in the evening after they went to bed and they could watch cartoons in the morning while we relaxed. Sunday (Claude’s Birthday), we spent the morning at Dynamic Earth, which is the interpretive center at the Big Nickel lookout. The boys remembered it from past visits and wanted to go back. We did the underground mine tour again this time. Marc decided that he was scared to go underground but we told ... read more

When we left Robert’s place on Friday it finally felt like we were truly on our way home. It was a short trip as we only went as far as Ottawa, but we were now into Ontario (and would be in Ontario for over a week before we finally crossed it all). In Ottawa, we visited the Museum of Nature as they had a temporary Giant Mammals exhibit that the boys wanted to see. This was really a great museum. The giant mammals were good, but so was the rest of the museum; with a dinosaur section, marine animals, birds, mammals, insects, etc. In each area there was a good interactive area for young kids so Marc really enjoyed it too. I think his favorite was the bird hospital, where he spent a great deal of ... read more

We had a free day in Montreal before we needed to start the voyage west, so we decided to take both boys to Parc Safari since Marc had had such a good time there with Frederique. It turned out to be a great choice for a hot day. Parc Safari is actually about 45 minutes south of Montreal in the Richeleau valley area. We started off by visiting the walk through animals before it got too hot (although it was already pretty roasting). In the lion and tiger area you actually get to walk through glass tunnels that go right through the animal enclosures. One of the female lions was right up on the tunnel as we went through so it was pretty neat to be looking up at her. They have 3 white lions from ... read more

After our week of break in Montreal or fishing, we returned to Saint Raymond for 2 1/2 days of intense packing. We arrived back Sunday afternoon and by Wednesday morning we were back on the road for Montreal. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate with us. It was very very hot and humid the whole time (you were dripping sweat by 9 am) and every few hours it would rain on us so we couldn’t keep boxes out around the trailer for very long at a time. On Monday night we stopped by our neighbours to say good bye to them. Their boys were close in age to Paul and all 4 boys had played together several times over the year. In typical boy fashion, farewell was a spirited sword fight! Because we were so fully loaded, ... read more

North America » Canada » Quebec » Mont Laurier July 10th 2011

Claude and Paul went with Claude’s brother Robert and his neice Caroline fishing for a week to a fishing resort in Northern Quebec. It was a 5 hour drive north of Montreal. At Mont Laurier they leave ashpalt and travel to the town of Parent where they stay overnight. Then it is another hour on a dirt road and then an hour and a half boat ride across Reservoir Gouin to the very nice fishing lodge of Aventurier du Gouin. Claude said it was like a 5 star resort in the middle of the wilderness. For Paul’s birthday Robert had got him a new fishing rod and tackle so he was excited to try it out. It was Paul’s first fishing trip and I was worried that he might find the week too long but he ... read more

This was our break week. Marc and I spent the week in Montreal at Robert's house hanging out by the pool and exploring the area while Claude and Paul went fishig to Northern Quebec. It was a sweltering hot week so a great one to spend alot of time by the pool. Marc was at Robert's pool with either me or Frederique every day, as well as getting to go to Etienne's in ground pool with a slide one day. On Monday Frederique and Etienne took Marc out to Parc Safari for the afternoon while I managed to get a hair cut. He had lots of fun feeding the animals from the car and they also splashed around the wate park area. It is kind of a combination animal park where you can drive through the ... read more

Friday, July 1st Canada Day and home to St. Raymond After 2900 km in two weeks of travel, We returned back to Saint Raymond right after lunch on Canada Day. We had to be back in Montreal by the next afternoon, so we had a very busy afternoon and evening of packing up all the stuff that is to go back to Robert’s place. We had borrowed several large pieces of furniture that had been his dad’s stuff and was being stored in their airplane hangar. We had rented a large cube van to bring it to S. Raymond, so when we assembled it all on the driveway it didn’t look like our little trailer would handle it all. Amazingly, Claude managed to fit it all in. The first step of going home has started. North America » Canada » New Brunswick » Edmundston June 29th 2011

This was our last real day of our holiday. We left Edmundston early in the morning to meet up with Claude’s Uncle Jacques at his cabin near Edmundston. They live in Levis, so not very far from us in St. Raymond, but we hadn’t managed to link up yet. Luckily for us, he was out at his cabin this week, so we got to have breakfast with him there. He enjoyed showing the boys his tree house for kids and his tarzan rope. Both boys managed to wipe out pretty good on the rope swing. Edmunston is almost on the Quebec border (and the Maine border too) so we were very quickly into Quebec. Shortly into Quebec, we stopped in St. Eusebe to have lunch with Claude’s Aunt Lulu and Uncle Roger. The boys had lots ... read more
