Meccys!
Hobbitland looks perfect for all the Metcalfes wi their wee Meccy legs, a mass migration looks on the cards since there appears to be plenty of social housing available. I'm volunteering your Mum to lead the way. Enjoy yourselves, Pops.

Thanks for the detailed information
I have been following you blog and just got around to Recommending you. My wife and I will be traveling through New Zealand and Sydney, Australia along with the South Seas Islands next October for our 40th anniversary, so the details you provide help me to plan our trip. We will also visit South American in the not to distant future so we will refer back to those blogs too. We've lived in Southeast Asia for years so will enjoy reading your blogs once you get there to get your impressions. We also lived in Europe for 18 years and enjoyed trips to the Untied Kingdom.

Thanks so much for your kind comments. Makes my day when I see other people are enjoying the blog and not just family and friends (who are required to :-P ). Your recommendation is really appreciated and will get me back on the front page with the new requirements, so thanks very much!!!

a wee cheap and nice dinner
Al you need is 1 potato , 3 eggs and oil- chop up potato, skin on, into wee cubes fry it in quite deep oil for about 10 to 13 minutes.Drain oil off so you can reuse it. Beat up eggs and pour into pan ( you can add wee bits of bacon or chicken or any other meat or veg too) cover pan so steam cooks it all through- voila 5 minutes later you have a spanish tortilla, flip the pan onto a plate so the nice panny shape is on top and slice and serve with salad or sweetcorn or Glesga salad(chips/crisps)

Ooh the adventure continues. All sounds fab. Good team work, I know who to call when we get stuck in the sand at Largs. Have you named the van yet? :-b. x
20th November 2011

Auckland looks lovely. Do you both have to sit in the front of the van while it's moving or could one of you lie in bed reading or whatever?
21st November 2011

Back or front
I guess one of us could lie/sit in the back. I don't how legal that would be or comfortable. The roads here are mental. Hairpin bends all the way.

Sounds like you needed some down time
Sensory over load can come when on the road. Each person must decide how to deal with it. Sorry you missed the Colca Canyon....the condors are amazing!

Hey Guys...
IMO you won't miss anything, we didn't like Santiago at all, we spent 4 days there wishing we'd moved our flights! :) Safe travels and enjoy NZ (although it would be pretty difficult not to)... Mike

Exciting?
Sand Boarding! Dune Buggies with rollbars? That's nothing, you should see me wizzing round Tesco on my Electric Buggy---put the fear of death into you, Old Ladies throwing wobblers and clutching their handbags! Now that's what you call fun! Good Blog, do keep on enjoying yourselves, Love, Pops.
30th October 2011

Sounds fab but I am sure you'll be finding sand in every orifice until you reach Asia :-b x
30th October 2011

Well I am quite exhausted reading about your adventures... If only I had a can of Oxygen at hand ;-b What an adventure...

:)
I thought exactly the same thing when we rocked up at Machu Picchu. I was disappointed to see it crawling with people who'd just taken the bus to it. I was standing in front of one of the worlds greatest treasures and I was disappointed, not a good place to be. It was only once we started exploring that I fully appreciated it and started loving it, but still, we have far fonder memories of the trek than we did of the 'prize' at the end... I'm really enjoying reading your blog guys... Safe travels.. Mike
