The alarm rang at 6:00 am. Even though we were to bed early, I felt like I was playing wake the dead. After a refreshing shower and some getting it together, we headed out for breakfast at Zinc, recommended by Jordan. The chef was not anywhere to be found so the omlettes were off the menu, but the butter fresh croissants did the trick. Close to the Metro, we purchased tickets and took the number 8 to the Louvre. We chose to walk along the gardens instead of switching trains and got to see the temporary fencing, remants of the previous day's Tour de France. The park featured a ferris wheel and other small rides but nothing was open that early in the day. We had planned to purchase a Museum Pass, but that didn't happen ... read more

The drive from the airport was interesting. We passed the IKEA store which made me smile...all this way to see an IKEA. After dropping our bags off, we headed out for walk to the Eiffel Tower. Being Sunday morning it wasn't too busy - with some elevators broken, there were hundreds of people waiting to go up. We returned to the hotel and unpacked. Our stroll brought us past the Eiffel Tower and on to a road that was blocked off for the Tour de France. We decided to stake out a spot along the route and wait for the riders as they zoomed by. After a carvan of ... read more

Saturday morning, Sinclaire was picked up by Auntie M.E. and Angela to go on an adventure - camping overnight at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. With a truck full of gear, snacks, scooter and two canoes, they were on their way. We got ready to go and watched the penulitmate day of the Tour de France. After getting a ride to airport with Rick, we met Colleen who was picking up Kari who was delayed a day thanks to mechanical problems on two aircraft. In Toronto airport we stopped for dinner before the flight. A Boy Scout troop kept checking out the soccer game on the television in the restaurant. They were obviously from Scotland as their uniforms included kilts. The flight to Charles de Gaulles airport was uneventful. I wanted to take a nap, but the ... read more

Glenn surprised me at Christmas with a trip to France. After months of reading travel guides, blogs, websites and grilling friends who have been to France, we are finally ready to be on our way. We are packed (mostly - I should really figure out what should and shouldn't be in my purse). With a few hours before the afternoon flight to Toronto, I imagine that it will be nice to have something to do. Little girl sweetly told me she would miss me before she went to sleep. I will miss her too. It is a rather uneventful birthday for Glenn today, but I'm sure we will make up for it. We have something, but not too much planned for each day to see as much as we can in 10 days. Just last week, ... read more
