The Weekenders

Nichole Sauve

Follow my other half, Barry, and I on our travels to all of the unique points of interest across Michigan, and beyond. We are now on our 3rd year of adventures, and this year we have a new addition, and quite the learning experience. Our daughter Autumn is along for the ride! Learning how to be the "none nuisance" neighbors in campgrounds can be a challenge, as well as finding the best ways to let her stretch her legs beyond the playpen, as she is in the transitional walking stage.
We'll report all of our misadventures, reviews on places we stay, the wildlife we encounter, attractions in the areas, and how we "attempted" to budget our trips. Life truly is an adventure, and it's just no fun keeping it all to your self when there are so many to share it with. 😊

Whew. . must have written myself out for a while. Took quite a break from my last post, and I never even finished our trip! Well, we will have to fix that. If I remember correctly, we left off when we were coming up the east side of Michigan, along the shore, and about to pass through Rodgers City. From there it was only a short distance to what we thought would be our end destination, one of the small state forest campgrounds at Ocqeouc Falls. To understand our next move, you would have to understand our way of thinking that directed us this summer. I'm not sure if I stated previously our camping dilemma we had this year, but having a baby makes us quite nervous about tent camping ever since we had a bear ... read more

The next portion of our trip found us heading north along Lake Huron, through towns such as Harrisville, Oscoda/Ausable, Alpena, and Presque Isle. This took up a large portion of our day (besides packing from our previous stay at Tawas). To begin our drive we drove through Oscoda/ Ausable area along the bay. The resorts and houses in this area are so gorgeous, and it reminds me of something you might see in California, more so even than the famous Highway 2 that runs along the southern end of the UP. Every resort has an amazing beach and unique design. I was strongly urged by my mom to check out Old Orchard Campground in the area, a place she stayed multiple times as a child, but we were unsure of the location and so continued on. ... read more

To follow up on my previous post, this was the start of our camping portion of our trip. After a good visit with family and a night out on town in downtown Traverse City, we headed completely across state, from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron. Tawas State Park is located at the end of a peninsula in East Tawas. Surrounded on both sides by Lake Huron it is quite beautiful, and offers a lighthouse and beautiful beaches. You can rent bikes at the office and follow many paved bike paths, including one that heads off the peninsula toward Tawas. Our first night we stayed in site 130, which is located on a bend with a wooded backdrop. It was a spacious site that wasn't as cramped as a lot of others in the campground due to ... read more

I've finally done it. . . I've finally created the well procrastinated travel blog. This is something I've contemplated for some time. Again. . .well procrastinated. My adventures began 3 years ago, well, the ones that weren't accompanied by sorrows and anguish anyways, or begotten by myself. Three years ago I fell into the arms of someone I always longed for, even though it seemed I barely knew him really. Yet, my soul was attracted to him from the first time I laid eyes on him. Six years later we would finally begin our adventures. I was finally with someone with whom I could share my love of writing, discovery, history, sci-fi, fantasy, the great outdoors, and again, the need to adventure! And what a blessing it has been! I remember in our first year he ... read more
