So day 2 arrived. After a very busy (!) day 1, i had a lie in. At around 9.30 i helped to feed the chickens, and collected the eggs, which we then had for breakfast. Then i took it easy and sorted out all my belongings into some sort of order. Then suddenly it was time for lunch. How time flies when you are not busy! This respite didn't last long though - Mike and Glyn had plans to pollard a big tree on the farm, as it was threatening to drop large branches onto the roof of the barn, and also next doors cars. So they had ladders, and chain saws, and I was given a small axe to chop up the smaller branches into kindling. 3 hours of that and my back was killing ... read more

So my first full day in Limalonges is over, and wow, what a day!! I awoke early, despite having only about 4 hours sleep, and after a cup of tea went out with Mike to feed the alpacas. this involved driving around the farm on a quad bike dishing out bowls of beet and changing their water. The alpacas were all very inquisitive with a new person feeding them, but are very tame and non-agressive - apart from Christine, who decided to spit a mouthful of beet in my face!!! Bless her! Anyway, after doing the rounds, and then feeding the goats, and the chickens, it was time for a spot of breakfast. this consisted of extremely fresh eggs straight out of the hen house, and beans. Nice. After breakfast back to work. And the first ... read more

So, the day finally arrived. I got up at 4.30am to pack the car up with my life!! Saying goodbye to my 2 Al's was very hard. Driving to France to start a new life without them seemed very strange indeed. But, as they know, it is only a short term thing til I decide if France is a place I could live in - then, who knows? So I drove to Dover, in the pouring rain, at 5.30 am, to catch the 08:20 ferry to Calais. Arrived in plenty of time at 7.20, and drove the car on and found a comfy (!) seat for the 90 minute journey. It pulled out on time, which was a pleasant surpise. I tried to get some sleep, as had not got much the night before. However, a ... read more

So, only 11 days to go before I get on a ferry to a new life in France. It is all becoming very real now, and alittle bit scarey. For the first time in 30 years I have no job and no home! I am not sure what this trip holds for me, but as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained. So I will enter France with a very positive outlook, and MAKE it work for me. In the worst case scenario, I pack my car back up and return to England and start again. Best case, I love it in France, develop into a reasonable web designer, and settle down, probably in the South where it is warmer, with a smallholding of maybe 2 or 3 acres, grow all my own vegetables, and surround ... read more
