Wow, we really loved Agnes Water! It’s an idyllic part of the world where time seems to stand still. It’s right on the coast, with only one road leading in and out of town. Driving the two hours from Bundaberg felt like an eternity, as we hadn’t travelled for longer than one hour at a time for ages! I loved the laid-back feel of the place and Dean loved the beach. Sadly it’s Queensland’s most northerly surf beach (there will be no fun in the ocean further north because of the crocs!) so we grabbed the surf board and made the most of it. For our second night, we found an awesome caravan park with a great setup and direct beach access. We felt a bit miffed that we had stayed at the other shabby caravan ... read more

Eumundi is famous for one thing, and that’s its markets. There is a market every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. And we’re not talking an average kind of market – this is the mother of all markets. The big version is on Saturday mornings but even the Wednesday one, which we went to, was huge! We spent several hours checking out the many stalls and cursed ourselves for having eaten a hearty breakfast as there was an abundance of delicious food on offer. I couldn’t help myself and had an early lunch of chicken satay skewers and various snack and drink samples. In an attempt to get rid of a headache and stiff neck/shoulders, I went for a craniosacral ‘jaw aligning’ treatment. I’d never had one before and it wasn’t exactly what I had expected. Unlike manipulative ... read more

Bribie Island is a cool little place where you really feel like you’re on an island, but everything you need is there. We stayed in the township of Woorim on the east coast. I wasn’t feeling so well so had a day of chilling out in the van. When I was ready to get active again the next day, it started pouring and didn’t stop for a couple of days. Much to my annoyance I pulled a muscle in my back (not sure how since we didn’t do anything!) so we spent lots of time in the van, reading and chilling. Before leaving Bribie Island, we went for a drive around the island.Sadly most of the terrain is accessible for 4WD vehicles only, so our explorations were a bit limited. On Sunday we headed to Caloundra, ... read more

We spent a day chilling out in our van in Beenleigh (we lost the war on condensation again that night!) and were lucky enough to be in town for the District Cane Festival & Street Parade. The festival has been held in Beenleigh for over 60 years and we watched the endless stream of floats, bands and marchers make their way along the high street. Before we left, Dean got a fantastic deal on an awesome surf board in the local pawn shop. Now we just need a good surfing beach! We were so excited to be catching with our friends Mel and Timmy who live in Carbrook. On our arrival, we were eagerly greeted by the gorgeous and energetic Frankie. I have switched from being a cat person to being a dog person, and I want ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Mullumbimby May 19th 2012

Happy birthday to Zach who is 11 years old! We hope you had a wonderful day and look forward to catching up with you soon. xx After an early morning yoga session with a distractingly attractive teacher (google ‘Ananta Yoga Byron Bay’ for proof!) we made our way to the town of Mullumbimby. What a cute name. Its Aboriginal meaning is ‘small round hill’. It was a nice surprise to find that the local Saturday market was in full swing when we arrived. We whizzed around it as we didn’t have much time before checking in to the lovely Kiva Spa. This place is a little gem: it’s a Balinese inspired day spa where you can either just use their grounds (two spa pools, an icy plunge pool, sauna with fairy lights, relaxation area and lovely ... read more

Hmm, yes, we returned to town… So to some degree, the Lonely Planet prophecy seemed to be coming true: Byron Bay drew us back in. I suppose it’s because there is so much to do and life is easy as everything is here. Besides, it was on our northbound route. We headed back to the Arts Factory to have dinner, watch a very entertaining gig by Cockatoo Paul at the Byron Bay Brewing Company’s Buddha Bar and check back into our van space in the car park. The next day was pretty sensational and started with an amazing breakfast of raw vegetable juice from the café + my concoction of toasted muesli with coconut yoghurt, berry compote and almond milk topped with banana and nuts. Dean had some chill-out time with his book while I mooched ... read more
