I'll miss you! If this is truly the end of your journey, I am going to have withdrawal problems.... I have really enjoyed tripping with you vicariously. Thanks so much for all the adventures you took me on! If you travel again and blog I'll be excited to join you again!
Loos and other matters Angelique and Adrian:
It may be the fanciest loo but have you come across the super-loos ? They completely self clean after every client.
We did the 90 mile bus ride, except it is not 90 miles. Don't remember it being too bad and quite wonderful when you get there. The Bay of Islands was very memorable.
You are bringing back all sorts of memories from our Sabbatical in NZ. When you get to the South Island we would recommend going on the Doubtful Sound expedition rather than the more populous Milford Sound one.
Dn't miss the albatross near Dunedin.
enjoy
John
Thanks for your memories! I'm so happy to have been able to share your adventure vicariously! You are wonderful writers and you made me feel that I was right there with you. Have a marvelous time in NZ and I look forward to hearing about your best-of-kiwi experiences.
Hi There! Hi Adrian and Angelique - glad to see you're still having great adventures! I don't know if you're actually looking for an answer to the train fare conundrum, but lest you lose any more sleep about it, I just wanted to point out that we have the same situation with the train to Newark Airport and JFK too. Besides the all too true answer that they're hitting up the tourists to subsidize their transit, the extra fare appears to be the traveler fare for the monorail from the train to the terminals, which people who arrive by car pay in their parking ticket. Of course if Sydney Airport has no monorail, then that shoots that theory down......
visa question We're based in BKK and planning a trip to Myanmar later this month. DId you obtain you visa at the embassy in BKK? How long did it take? Just wondering if I should book our flight in advance of getting the visa. I'm also wondering about traveling independently vs. using an agent. We rarely use agents, but I think in Myanamar it might be advantageous. Thanks for your very informative blog!
Great sapa info Thank you for taking the time to write your account in such detail. My wife and I leave for Vetnam in five days (1-16-10) and Sapa is on our list of places to see. We've been mildly concerned about the weather/clothing/temperature situation we would find there and was actually checking the net to see if it were possible to purchase rubber boots in Sapa when I stumbled upon your blog post. We'll be looking at the weather closely and may very well drop the Sapa leg if the weather isn't clear.
Chris
almost on my way there i will be leaving sf on the 6th, i will be meeting up with my travelling partners daughter and a freind in hanoi, and our plan is to visit halong bay, after visiting vn and cambodia last year, i can easily feature what happened to you, theres not much structure, of reliability in that part of the world, although congeniality seems to be everywhere Dave
Great blogs on Burma - can't wait for the next one(s).
One question though - how much have you budgeted for the entire trip?
(I am planning to visit Burma in aprox. 3 months)
love the blog Hi Angelique and Adrian, I just wanted to let you know that I have been following your travels for the past few months and am so in awe of your spirit of adventure.(Diane put me on the mailing list). You are able to see these very exotic places that most of us will never get to, and seem totally comfortable with situations that would intimidate the heck out of me. The photographs are beautiful and even though the dialogue is most interesting, a picture is worth a thousand words in this case. Keep up the good reporting! Rhoda
thank you Thanks for all the hard work you are putting into this blog. I have been enjoying your daily entries. I hope Adrian and feeling better now. Be safe. Lots of Love....Mom
Great to see you guys are blogging your adventures Hey guys, just a quick hello from SF. ThanKs for the posts and the photos! Fun to travel with you vicariously. Get well, AJ! BTW, you guys should try Pachinko if you have a chance. Very odd game and hard to figure out, but people over there are really into it. BTW, if you win a lot of balls, you have to go outside to another spot to trade them in for cash and/or prizes. I guess this is how they pretend it isn't gambling.
We've decided to take off six months to see Asia and Australia and revisit New Zealand before we turn 40. Angelique's been to Asia once (Bhutan, a few days in Malaysia, only one in Singapore) and this will be Adrian's first time on the continent. Neither one of us has been to Australia but we did spend 3 weeks in New Zealand in 2007 and can't wait to return. If all goes well, our plan to is to spend a week in Japan, six weeks in southeast Asia, 2-3 in Australia and then 3 months in New Zealand, returning home to San Francisco in late March, 2010. Enjoy the blog!... full info
