Its about 10h30 when our speedboat approaches Koh Kood (or Koh Kut) We pass the expensive Coral Beach resort and then the very expensive Soneva Kiri, before turning up into a river mouth and this is where my camera promptly runs out of memory. No footage of our arrival at the stunning Bann Makok which is where we will be staying for three days. Bann Makok is an 8 room boutique hotel built out of reclaimed wood in the style of a traditional fishing village. It floats on stilts in the mangroves on a clear lagoon and is terribly stylish. No amount of photography can truly show the character but take a look at the website: www.bannmakok.com. The owner has travelled extensively in SE Asia and has been collecting beautiful things for years to put together ... read more

Tiny Koh Mak island is the shape of a starfish with a leg missing. It is my favourite Thai island so far, ever. 10km long and about 5km wide with two long palm fringed beaches, and a couple of smaller ones if you're willing to explore. It is so laid back that even the sunburn takes two days to come out. But, the goggos! (Insects for those who don't speak South African). I have developed a scientific theory about the ultraviolet wave lengths emitted by London white skin to attract anything that bites. And if it doesn't try to eat you alive, it will certainly give you a nasty rash. Stop that scratching!! We are staying in a pretty traditional(ish) Thai teak house a couple of meters away from the pool at Good Times Resort. This ... read more

Finally on the beach with electricity and wifi working at the same time, and enough bandwidth to get onto the internet. So, catchup time. This will be the third time I try to write this entry, so lets hope Travelblog doesn't loose it again when I hit save. Ahhh technology.... LAST DAYS IN BANGKOK: Bangkok is one big shopping mall. From cheap and nasty rip-offs, through good quality fakes, to the real thing; you can buy anything here (Except maybe a cheap pair of pretty heals for a smart night out... But that's another story). We are not in Bangkok over a weekend so unfortunately we have to miss out on our favourite Chatuchak weekend market, but we head off to Sukhumvit and the famous Pantip Plaza aka IT Centre first. If it is battery powered ... read more

Bangkok greets us with its usual brash hair dryer breath as we step out of the airport. It is never less than 30C when you arrive here! The fans on the sidewalk keep the smoke shifting around. But it is quiet tonight and no queue for taxis. Sunday night is a good time to arrive. Our taxi has so much good luck suspended from its rear view mirror that you can hardly see the extensive altar to good luck mounted on the dashboard. It works and we have our quietest ever entrance into the city - no notorius Bangkok jam today. The luck has rubbed off on us as we check into the Eastin Grand and we are given a free upgrade to the business level on the 32nd floor. What an awesome view!! And the ... read more

Today everything went into into storage. 11 days and counting..... Just have to figure out how the technology works now. Looking forward to sharing our best memories, some great (hopefully) photographs, and some terrible (until we get the hang of it) videos. This blog may be a bit dodgy too in the beginning; it's our first time so please bare with us until we get slick. We'll replace the dated profile pic once we have a tan and a gorgeous backdrop to stand in front of. I'll post our route map when I figure out how.... read more
