What fun in a beautiful city. The food sounds scrumptious...and the desserts look divine....especially the fried donut! Happy Anniversary....40 years is something to be proud of.

Happy 40th! Have a fabulous time! Please give our regards to Susan Rose if she happens to be your Tauck guide. She was an outstanding guide. She was a pleasure to be with and a bundle of energy. We had her as our Portugal & Spain gui
de in Sept. Looks like you are off to a great vacation. Wish we could have come along.

It's ADVENTURE Travelling. You stay in 4/5 star hotels and complain. I usually stay in 3 star hotels and have a good time. I like A/C, a comfy bed (Asian beds tend to be harder than western stds) a clean toilet & shower, a safe box &
; a restaurant capable of making a decent omelet ... although decent cheddar cheese is not usually available.

I visited those places in 2010. I was amazed at the level of English of the Hotel & Restaurant staffs, Street & Market Vendors, Taxi & Tuk Tuk Drivers. Much better than Thailand. Sihanouk played all sides of the conflict and sur
vived to old age. Pol Pot died in his comfy bed in N/E Cambodia. He lived 10 years in Trat, Thailand, financed by the Thai's and CIA (bizarre).

The Siem Reap is definitely worth a visit prior to viewing Angkor Wat. It was very interesting. I tried to tour 7-10am & 4-6:30pm. Not so hot, less tourists and better light for photos. Easy to get "templed out" in Siem Reap.

I live in N/E Thailand 2-4 months per year and have travelled all over Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia from Aug-Dec. I never took Malaria Pills. I never met anyone who caught Malaria and I was bitten by many mosquitoes. I did religio
usly take malaria pills when I travelled in Africa & S/E Asia in 1972-73. Malaria was rampant then. Now it is rigorously controlled. Only Anopheles Mosquitoes transmit Malaria. They have extremely long rear legs and a proboscis in line with their bodies. They are quite obvious. I never saw any them in S/E Asia 2009-1012. Mostly they were common mosquitoes, which sit flat on a surface c/w short back legs & their proboscis 90 degrees to the line of their body. On eis much more likely to contract dengue Fever than Malaria in S/E Asia today.

I recall passing this hotel in 2010.

I really liked Luang Prabang. Flew in there in July 1972. Landed in the middle of a very Hot War. Stayed with a local Missionary and caught a plane out the next day. Went back 38 years later in 2010. Really enjoyed myself. Bused there from
Vientiane. That was a mistake! Next time I will fly there. I was a bit shocked to be handed a bill for $50 for feeding the monks. Silly not to negotiate a price. A common local rip-off.

Wonder why your travel company would not point out there are direct flights from Laos to BKK? That's common knowledge.
