yesterday morning we got a slow start since we both had to ˝beautify˝ourselves for an afternoon at the thermal baths. breakfast was my amazing honey yogurt with bits of oat and then bread with my ham cream cheese. LOL. we also caught a glimpse of our new apartment-mates, these two girls about our age from presumably the UK. the first thing on the day's agenda was the West End Shopping Center, eastern europe's largest shopping mall. btw this keyboard is all switched around so pardon any horrendous spelling errors. kasia needed a bathing suite and i decided that i hated mine so we both HAD to buy new ones. i ended up getting the first one i saw at quicksilver but for whatever reason if you're a girl and looking for a non-whorish bathing suite, you're ... read more

our last full day in Prague was spent basically wandering around the city...we had a rather late start and journaled and had some breakfast in the lounge before finally heading out. first we had to do some errands, the primary one being laundry. we walked over to traveller's hostel down the street and dropped off our laundry, quasi-pretending we were staying there. they didn't ask any questions, so that was easy. we stopped back to pick up our forgotten passports, kasia got pizza and myself a drink from albert's, and then we headed to the train station to purchase our tickets to hungary. probably our favorite part of the morning's journey was seeing an old man's scrotum hanging out of his shorts on the metro. dobry den, indeed! once our "business" was done with, we took ... read more

yesterday was an early morning after a night from hell. first there was the drunk girl singing alanis morisette outside along with other drunks and their chatter...then was the tolling of some stupid bells...then was the 2:30 intrusion of more roommates who decided to make as much noise as possible and shine flashlights everywhere...last but not least was the freight train snoring that woke us up around 4:30...earplugs hardly helped... after having a breakfast of warm milk with corn flakes and tang, we showered and then headed back to bohemia bagel since kasia was still hungry. i wrote postcards and journaled. then it was off to albert's, the grocery store, since we had decided to be frugal. i bought dried fruit, nuts, some kind of cheese-bacon bread, and a bunch of chocolate. then it was off ... read more

so here we are in prague just finishing up our first day... After our taxi drama, settling at the hostel, and all of that, we headed out toward the old town square and then toward the charles bridge. tired and gross we,just thought we'd do some wandering before dinner. we eventually chose a little cafe where i had myself a pilsner and some roast pork with cabbage and dumplings. since this is clearly a food journal i've attached a picture of both. :-) back in the square, there was a big jumbotron up for the germany-italy game but we just headed back toward the hostel. there we ended up talking with these two vegan girls from florida for a couple of hours about all kinds of things from social justice to feminism. we hit the sack ... read more

Ok so I'm not really in Wroclaw anymore, but since I had two failed attempts at updating yesterday, we're gonna pretend i am.. so our last night in Warsaw we ended going to Galeria (club) along with Kasia's cousins. Kasia was quite the dancing queen if I do say so myself. Jarek and I left to check out Utopia, one of Warsaw's best clubs, while Kasia stayed and got her groove on. Once back (4:30am) we hit up some Kebabs....always delicious.... the next morning I went to meet up with Jarek at 2:00 and we headed to the train station so he could help me buy tickets. Well all the workers there were huge bitches and were of no help whatsoever, so we ended up going to an internet cafe to look up train times. The ... read more

Being back in Warszawa has been wonderful. I love this city and the people in it...I don't want to leave :-( so we got in around 8pm on thursday from gdańsk and took a cab to her cousins' place in the mokotów area. they've been awesome and we've had a lot of fun chilling with them...that night we went back to rasko and waited til after 3am to hang out with jarek. we went and got kebabs (awesome) and whatnot before heading back to iza and wojtek's to sleep... friday morning we met jarek in front of good 'ole McDonalds at 11 to head to Wilanów for the day. Wilanów is "Poland's answer to Versailles". While it was a really cool place, I wouldn't go about comparing it to Versailles. We toured the interiors and whatnot, ... read more

Well here we are for the second day in Gdańsk and its quite a nice place. Reminds me slightly of Provincetown, but not really at all lol Yesterday morning we packed all of our stuff and headed to the trainstation around 11am. We managed to buy tickets for the 11:50 train which was a pretty sweet deal. We couldn't figure out what the ticket said and had no idea where our platform was but we managed to get on board before it left. Stepping into our compartent it smelled like kiełbasa, and there was a family of 4 (one of the ugliest i've seen in my life) getting ready to eat what looked like take-out kebabs. For the next almost five hours we put up with the obnoxious little brat of a daughter as well as ... read more

there, i said it. i love warsaw. in fact, i like it here so much that we're coming back for 3 nights after gdansk. sorry, toruń... the train ride here was no problem at all, taking only two hours and forty five minutes on the inter-city train. walking up the stairs and out of the station there was warsaw sprawled out before us, with the palace of culture (a "gift" from the soviets) being most prominent. immediately i could tell that it was going to be a hell of a lot different than krakow - cosmopolitan, more fast-paced, trendy, and modern. our hostel was only a short walk through some garden and it basically above some bank. being led to our room. we're both sleeping in like treehouses, these bunks some 10 or twelve feet off ... read more

Phew...hopefully I don't collapse from the heat in this internet cafe before finishing this entry... Today's our last full day Krakow, but I'll get to that after a recap of the past few days...As a side note, my last entry was actually entered the day after I wrote it because the site was down. Tuesday we were up and ready at 8 for Marian, Kasia's pseudo-uncle to drive us to Czestochowa. Sleeping most of the way there, we got there in about two hours, and it was nothing like i expected. I suppose I thought it would be like a tiny church on a hill, but instead it was this massive complex of intricate chapels and a basilica in the middle of a good-sized town. Being perfectly honest, the interior of the chapels, etc. were more ... read more

Well well well, it seems I've finally made it to an internet cafe. Not gonna lie, we've been on the go non-stop, so it's good to finally sit down and rest. We just finished up a delicious meal sitting outside in rynek glowny, Krakow's main medieval square - the biggest of its kind in Europe! Delicious grilled pork with mushrooms, peppers, and plums with chrzan, salad, and fries on the side. Helped that down with some piwo w sokiem, a cherry/raspberry flavored beer. So I'm still not totally convinced I'm in Poland, considering how easy it is to walk around a Polish neighborhood, grocery, or restaurant back home, but its sinking in more and more... Upon arrival, we were picked up by Basia and her husband Ignac. Basia is Kasia's grandma's best friend's daughter, and its ... read more
