I think that travel comes from some deep urge to see the world, like the urge that brings up a worm in an Irish bog to see the moon when it is full ~ Lord Dunsany

Travel for me has always been a passion - an all consuming passion, I love the different cultures.
Travelling for me does not have to be to a different country - I am quite happy exploring all the corners of the country that I am living in while I wait for the opportunity to travel to another country.

What I love about travelling -
The sights, smells, sounds, cuisine and people of different places.
The feeling of being lost.
The experiences that stay etched in my memory - funny things like travelling through South America without knowing any Spanish and where no one speaks English (even at the airports and bus terminals)!!!! Or waiting for a train in Thailand that was 4hrs late!!!
Exploring the amazing landscapes, the lost cultures (and whats left behind), the different architecture, the music.
Seeing the energy of different people from different places and the thoughts and ideas that people have.

Travelling has made tolerant of our differences, has enriched the tapestry of my life, broadened my mind and most of all has made me a well balanced person who has a healthy dose of curiousity to investigate my world.

It is such a privilege to have even seen 1/10 of this amazing planet we call home. My memory is quite useless and I rely on my trusted camera to record my travels. On a quite day, I sit and look at the photos and it all comes flooding back and gets me all excited again, my feet start itching and Im back to surfing the internet looking for somewhere to go.

And my travels wouldnt quite be the same without my amazing travel buddies (mostly Angie) and sometimes Balsy (both my sisters and best friends) :D

Okay so its a lovely day in Auckland today - I decide to go to the Zoo with my camera to try ad improve my animal photography. I have been to the Auckland Zoo a few times - I love spending time with the tigers & the Orangutans the most. I also love the Pridelands area where all the African amimals are. The hippos were fun as well - besides the fact that they were really smelly they put on quite the show, rolling around in the water, coming up close to the observatory deck and generally having fun. Normally the amimals just enjoy sleeping during the day and there is little activity. My favourite tigers were just sleeping but I sat around hoping for some action - suddenly the tigers seemed to be sniffing and ... read more

I love Muriwai - so close to Auckland and such a lovely drive to a stunning beach. It is approximately 17km West of Kumeu, 42 kilometres Northwest of Auckland city, at the southern end of an unbroken 50 kilometre stretch of beach which extends up the Tasman Sea coast to the mouth of the Kaipara Harbour. One of several popular beaches in the area (others include Piha and Karekare). This was the first time I've been to Muriwai to find no Gannets!! All the other times I have been to Muriwai there have been Gannets galore, I suppose like most people I tend to hibernate as soon as the weather gets a wee bit chilly. Here I was thinking they were a permanent fixture at Muriwai. Turns out the best time to visit the gannets is ... read more

Situated by the airport, Butterfly is a fun way to spend a few hours. Attractions include the Crocodile Show, the butterfly house, the buttermilk farm and the aquarium. So its my birthday - 3 family members overseas (Mum, Bals & Hubby) & 3 at work (Angie, Arun & Dad) - I do not want to spend the day at home so go and check out what Butterfly creek has to offer before heading for drinks with friends (all working). I thought it would be a let down but was quite suprised at how much I enjoyed it and the hours just went. The Crocodile Show was amazing. I learnt that Crocs are one of the biggest sulkers in the animal kingdom and can easily sulk for a year (i.e go without food to prove a point). ... read more

Easter holidays and I am itching to get out of Auckland. With Mum away in India, Bals on holiday in the UK, Anshu and Arun busy with baby Aryan and no sign still of hubby (today it is exactly 5 mths since he left and still no idea when he's coming - pretty depressing.) Anyway not one to dwell on things to the point of insanity I decide to go for a drive and Anshu has decided to join me - something about it being a birthday treat! Dad joins us as well and of we go. The weather is pretty awful. It pours heavily as we leave Auckland and we are all silently wondering is its going to get an better - we carry on. As we approach Whangarei the skies turn blue and we ... read more

Our New Year Holiday was planned for 3 days and 2 nights. Included in the plan were Angie & I (hatchers of the plan), Mum & Arun were easily convinced to join, Dad & Bals were supposed to stay home and look after the house ...... or so they said. Booked in for the night of the 31st December 2009 & 1st January 2010 - driving back home on 2nd January 2010. Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Rotorua August 25th 2009

Rotorua is a great place to visit if one wants to experience the geothermal activity - something one does not often get to do. Bubbling mud pools and spectacular geysers are proof of Rotorua’s volcanic background. This thermal activity makes itself known in every corner of the city, and is the reason for the area’s famed sulphur scent. Clouds of steam drift from Kuirau Park, home to boiling mud pools, crater lakes and sulphur vents. The main thermal areas are Whakarewarewa, Waimangu Valley, Wai-o-Tapu and Hell’s Gate. Fumaroles, geysers and silica terraces displaying amazing colours can also be found within minutes of the city centre. I have visited Hell's Gate & on this trip visited Wai-o-Tapu. It is a photographers paradise - the amazing colours are worth capturing and make postcard perfect pictures. My travel companion ... read more

Asia » Brunei » Bandar Seri Begawan July 24th 2009

The story goes a little something like this......... Tired of working & the cold miserable winter, looking for a break from the monotonous routine. The plan was that Saurabh was going to come and visit at the end of July. So I had booked my leave at work. Leave booked from 27th July - 10th Aug. Last week of work and Saurabh still procrastinating, no plans of coming, no visas applied for - nothing! Two options left for me really - either cancel my leave and continue working waiting for Christmas or book a ticket and go see him. If Mohammed wont come to the Mountain must go to Mohammed. So booked my ticket on the Thursday to fly out on the Friday. Have no idea where UAE is - somewhere in the Arab world, oh ... read more

We're heading back to the starting place of our journey - Queenstown. But first we start the day with a shower and pack up our things. Have some breakfast and decide to have a quick stop along Lake Wanaka's shoreline just to take in the peaceful sunrise before starting our day. Wanaka is really beautiful and I imagine it just gets better in winter. The sunrise is beautiful as it splashes reddish & bluish paint over the mountain tops in the horizon. The route today is short but the views promise to be amazing as we drive on the Crown Range Road (It's the highest main road in New Zealand). First Stop - Cardrona. Cardrona is a quaint historic town (like so many others we've seen in the South Island) but has its own charm and ... read more

Today is a cruisey day, no hectic days crammed with plans - we are driving to Wanaka today. We are travelling on the same road that we used to get to Haast so we seen most the sights. Wanna make a few stops and then enjoy relaxin & exploring Wanaka (top ski destination in NZ) known for its winter beauty, surrounded by snow covered peaks. From Haast to Wanaka is 148kms (roughly 3:20hrs driving time). We are definately in no hurry so eat our breakfast in leisure & after a shower load up the car again with our bags & food. We stop at a few named spots and a lot of unmarked spots just to admire the stunning scenery. Driving in that area inthe early morning is just to amazing - really feels like the ... read more

No dont need to pack up today as we are spending another night in Haast. Today we wake up and only pack the essentials for our day trip to Fox Glacier. The distance is only about 120kms and driving time is supposed to be 1hr 45mins but we have to get there and register for the hike etc. With our car packed with the essentials we are of - quite excited in fact having never seen a glacier. We make no stop as time is of the essence but as its early in the morning the scenery to Fox Glacier was hauntingly beautiful and will stay in my mind for a long time to come. The vegetation was thick, hardly anyone to be seen, clouds hanging low, morning dew dripping of the leaves and catching the ... read more
