I have to say, this was one of the most awesome days I've had since I've been here. We saw waterfalls, monkeys, lizards, sloths, raccoons, an armadillo, centipedes, hot Israeli girls... it was quite a trip. Here's the pics: I wish there were words to describe it all but it's still too soon for my brain to process.... read more

Sometimes you wake up just in time to see and photograph something especially beautiful. Even though I was up late last night lamenting the failures of first lessons with the rest of the crew, the dawn conspired to yank me out of bed early anyway. As my classmate from OZ said last night, "I'll see you at sparrow's fart tomorrow." (That's dawn down under for the uninformed) These pictures from this morning prove that strangely enough, a sparrow's fart can be a pleasant thing...... read more

Well, the washing machine is still broken on campus so I had to go to another classmate's place to do my laundry. It was really refreshing to take my clothes from the wash and put them in a dryer, rather than hanging them on some dirty clothesline to "dry" in the dust and rain. (Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me either) I taught my first solo lesson last night and I feel like it was pretty average. I had some material issues and time management problems, but I worked through it. It just wasn't up to the level of performance that I expect from myself in front of a classroom. Old habits die hard sometimes, and I am still getting used to adapting my style and skills to a second language environment. But I'll ... read more

Last night we all went out to the library fundraiser at Karola's in Manuel Antonio. It was great to see so many people there and they raised a lot of money for the library which is awesome. I also had one of the funniest nights of people watching I've had since I got here. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera so my recitation of my memories will have to suffice... My instructors here at school, and the two hold overs from the last class are some of the most amusing people to watch when they get a little drunk. I really had fun watching the "walk-off" dance contest they kept throwing down. Got to see Heidi do a handstand which was pretty stinkin' cool. They're a lot of fun to hang out with. I also ... read more

Taught my first English lesson to the Ticos last night and it went great! I felt really comfortable up there, but then again, I always do. My partner for the team teach was awesome, she did a great job and really helped me stay on track. Today Anne, Catie and I are planning to take a trip to the beach again so expect more pics soon from there. Also, tonight is a charity event to save the Quepos library and we are all attending that. Should be lots of fun (and some of my new friends from the boat trip will be there too! yay for more cool girls!) The pics this time are sort of a variety, a hodge-podge if you will, of the last few days. Planning lessons takes a lot of time, I ... read more

Greetings blog readers! Hope all is well in your corner of the globe, it's Pura Vida here So far the second week of school is going well. We got our teaching schedules and I am really excited about my lessons. My grammar points flow right along with things I think I'll be really good at teaching. Now to see if I'm right... first lesson is on Friday! On a much more AWESOME note: My classmate that lives here too has returned! I think I mentioned that she had a family emergency and was thinking she might have to leave school (if not, there, I just mentioned it). But everything has worked out well, she was only gone for a few days, and now she is back! I am really happy that things with her family are ... read more

This first weekend has been AWESOME! On Friday night all of us from TEFL went out and hit the spots... unfortunately we hit them a little late in some cases (Bambu Jam) and not at all for others (Republik). But it was still awesome to hang out with everybody, and we even managed to get some of the staff here at TEFL to join us so that was cool. Saturday though... well that's a whole other story. Yesterday I attended what was basically a gay booze cruise/house music party. Although there were a lot of gay guys on the boat there were also a lot of really really hot women! Which is why I went. Well, that and because I needed desperately to shake my booty after being beat-deprived for almost a week. The party was ... read more

A little different blog today. Having a good week, very busy so far. Weather's been good, we actually did have a day without rain. Got my ticket for Heatwave 3 last night, had some good Mexican food (yeah, brand new place called Sanchos in MA, muy delicioso!), hung out with some school peeps and then got assaulted on my way home by some a-hole. I was walking back from MA (I know, I'm "never" supposed to do that, but it wasn't that bad) and I saw this upset girl come out of this place (I don't even know if it was a hostel or casino or what) and she was walking a little behind me. Well, suddenly a small suv comes hauling ass down the hill and swerves into the opposing lane (and that's a very ... read more
