Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Mai November 7th 2012

We arrived in Chiang Mai on Thursday 1st November after the gruelling train we decided to get a tuk tuk from the train station straight to the hotel. We checked in at The Small Hotel, a (small!) nice hotel on Tha Phae Rd - it has a pink pool!! We spent the first evening chilling out and got some veggie food from the first place we could find. We were starving from the train journey! We explored the area and had a little wander after food. Chaing Mai has a hippy kinda vibe (a bit like Hebden Bridge for those who've been there...), lots of veggie places to eat (WAAHOOOO!!!), all kinds of tourists, varying types of temples, monks wandering about the place, lots of local handicraft items/markets and friendly locals. We love film no matter ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok October 31st 2012

We flew through the night from India, arriving at the New Delhi airport around 2am, spent some time in the lounge waiting for our gate to open at 4:50ish. We managed to get some sleep on the plane, but it's never good quality stuff is it?! We arrived in Thailand 26th October about 11:30am. Thai people smile so much! They have a gesture where the put their hands in a prayer position and place them at the bottom of their face with a slight head bow. We tried to sort out our train tickets (Bangkok - Chiang Mai return) at the airport train station but no joy. We left the airport and got a cab to Pattaya (our luggage almost didn't fit in the car!!). Pattaya is about a 2 hour drive from Bangkok, as soon ... read more

Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jaipur October 22nd 2012

We landed in India about half eight on 5thOctober and Uncle Nidhi’s driver, Danesh collected us from Delhi airport. Traffic was mental, cars, trucks, bikes, mopeds, motorbikes, rickshaws, tuk tuks all fighting to be first and beeping as they go! When I spoke to the driver about it, he said "This is India!" We were driving from the airport to Uncle Nidhi’s when K’s cousin, Nimmit called us to see if we fancied meeting him and his wife Anku at the pub. Straight from the airport!! Needless to say we went :) We didn’t even freshen up! I was wearing hiking boots!! From the very first moment India was intense! Crazy airport, heaving with people - personal space isn't a given here... guess that's probably a result of the fact that just Delhi has the population ... read more

Middle East » United Arab Emirates » Dubai October 5th 2012

So we left Manchester at 9pm on Sunday 30th. Our flight had no issues, although at check in we were both 7kgs OVER with our hand luggage!!!! EEeeeeek! We were grabbing stuff out and giving the items to Mum and Dad to take home, as fast as were taking them out Dad was stuffing the items into our weighed check in!! Haha... Means that we're about 6/7kgs over so no space for any bits as we go :( We arrived in Dubai Monday 1st October at 7am. Took us over an hour to get off the airplane and through security, security found it very suspect that K had so many DVD's with him!! They thought they were chocolates and wanted to check them out. I felt like we were featuring in a surprise advert for Lindt ... read more
