Geo: 31.0468, -7.12908The sun rose this morning just after breakfast - more Moroccan flatbread pancakes smothered in jam and honey, hot boiled eggs and sugary milky coffee. Insulin levels sufficiently spiked, we climbed on aching legs to the roof and were greeted by the sun poking its head up above the valleys behind our hostel, iluminating the snowy peaks of Moint Toubkal in an ethereal glow. Sustained by the breakfast and the tranquility, we made our way back down to the village of Imlil. En route, we were treated to the sight of locals going about their business - riding their mules, collecting firewood and water. It had been a truly unique experience: to visit this village, steeped in history and frozen in time, and we felt very fortunate to have witnessed all that we did.Our ... read more

Geo: 31.1251, -7.91902The haunting sound of the call to prayer gave us a rude awakening at sunrise, which fortunately, due to daylight savings time, was an hour later than it could otherwise have been! However, although it would not have been my chosen alarm tone, it did set the tone for a day in the heart of morocco, a county with a culture so entirely different to our own. This tour, I realised quickly was going to be a tour of contrasts. We would traverse five different landscapes within this diverse country - mountain, city, beach, oasis and desert. Today's adventure had been outlined to us at the previous evening's meeting. So, it was with a hearty breakfast in our belies that we bade a farewell to Marrakech and took the twisting roads towards the high ... read more

Geo: 31.6342, -7.99994"I'm going to Morocco," I told friends. The invariable response was, "why? If you go to morocco, they told me, you'll be hassled everywhere you go." And being blonde, and having experienced the markets of Egypt and India, I feared the worst too. So it was with trepidation that we descended the steps of the plane, into the bright dry heat of the Moroccan morning. After the world's longest immigration queue, standing for over two hours to get our passports stamped - essential for a hassle-free exit from the country - we negotiated the airport, with its smiling staff and braved the taxi rank. Expecting to be pushed and pulled in all directions, it was a pleasant surprise to be met by a welcoming driver who simply ushered us into his taxi once we ... read more

Geo: 36.1682, -86.7772After yesterday's disastrous drive, and subsequent incredible music evening, we found ourselves enjoying the luxury of a long lie in. After a very late entry into breakfast and consuming the morning's dregs, we headed back down the hill to the main tourist attraction in Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame. Home to an incredible array of memorabilia, footage and photographs, it was a thorough walk through the history of the genre. Spread over three floors, there was an immense amount of information to read and marvel at. We were also given an audio guide, which gave extra anecdotal information about many of the exhibits. We saw Dolly's dresses, boots belonging to Alan Jackson, a huge display dedicated to Kenny Rogers, dresses worn by winners of the CMAs and cowboy hats a-plenty! There were ... read more

Geo: 36.1682, -86.7772After a poor night's sleep, our attempts at slumber thwarted by the sporadic roar of the air conditioning and the intermittent ping of the lift outside the door every time it reached our floor, we had our breakfast, served on polystyrene plates and eaten with plastic cutlery. As far as breakfasts go, for a Marriott Hotel in the middle of the tourist district, it was a pretty poor comparison to ones we have enjoyed in small hostels and guest houses across the world. We took the refund the hotel offered us and hastily hopped into our car to get across town to the main event of Memphis as far as we were concerned, and the main reason for our visit here. Elvis Presley's Graceland is world famous. Pilgrimages from across the globe have been ... read more

Geo: 35.1496, -90.0489Navigating the streets of New Orleans was not as difficult as we had feared and we were soon on our way out of the city and onto the freeway. After around an hour and a half, our first port of call had to be breakfast - we were ravenous and knew we would need plenty of provisions for the long drive ahead. We pulled into a service station for breakfast and stocked up on enough junk food to last us for a couple of hours. After another couple of hours driving, we were in Mississippi. This was the state that we were going to pass through and not actually stop in. So, to rectify matters, we decided to stop and grab lunch en route. We didn't have time to visit any of the towns on ... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778A blissful morning dawned today. A lie-in - the first for a long time - was on the cards and very much appreciated. However, there was a rather rude awakening for me, since my lovely friend Ali had challenged me to the MNDA ice-bucket challenge. So, off to the ice machine it was for me, and then a very cold, wet start to the day! I was grateful of it once we got out into the steaming streets of the city though as the mercury was hitting the mid thirties by the time we reached our first destination - the alleyways of the French Quarter, which we meandered down on our way to get to the trolley that would take us to the Garden District. On our way through the town, we stopped off ... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778Leaving Las Vegas, we were struck again by the huge number of people still playing the tables and machines at 8am as we departed from New York, via Las Vegas to our next location - New Orleans. However, first we had to contend with the airport system for Southwest Airlines - the USA's version of Ryanair. When we arrived at the airport, after a taxi ride with possibly the friendliest, most interested taxi driver of all time, we found ourselves faced with three potential queues to get into, none of which were signposted but which everyone else seemed to instinctively and successfully navigate. Since we had already printed our boarding passes off, we were... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778We were once again awake early this morning, our body clocks still on Nevada time, and used to the 6am starts on the tour, our eyes pinged open at 8am. We had nowhere to be until 11am, and so we took our time getting ready and then made out way out onto the streets of the French Quarter. After strolling around some of the curiosity shops and art galleries of Royal Street, we passed through Jackson Square again. Here we were treated to impromptu jazz performances by two sets of buskers. One pair singing and trumpeting, while the other substituted the trumpet for a huge euphonium. New Orleans truly is the city of Jazz, with musical performances not confined to the jazz bars of Bourbon and Frenchmen streets, but where is is not uncommon ... read more
