This is our last blog entry for this trip so we hope you have enjoyed our entries. 29th June. Today we left early to catch our train to the Rockies, on the Rocky Mountaineer train. Some of these carriages are double deckers, with the dining area on the lower level, and on the top you have great seating with windows in the roof, so you have a fantastic view all the way. These carriages also have an open platform at the back to stand on and take in the view and take photos. These carriages are for, what they call, Goldleaf travellers. We chose Gold Leaf, not Red leaf, and were well dined and wined. We had so much food in two days, it was unbelievable! The train travels slowly, sometimes too slow, but you are ... read more

Wow, time has slipped by so fast we haven’t had a chance to do more of our blog but here it is - better late than never: 14th June. Our trip by train was very long, approximately 7 hours, but we had some interesting company, with 2 people from Columbia, who had just got off a cruise ship, in our train compartment. At their home in Columbia they have maids and a chauffer and while they have being cruising they have a taxi driver for the day when they have time in each port. We don’t hold that against them. They were a very nice and an interesting couple who provided us with some good info for our journey. On arrival in Munich or Munchen in Germany, and completely different in Italian (Monaco di Baveria)! This ... read more

2nd June. We left our Hotel for the station, and were able to collect Rob’s lost mobile phone at 8:30 am. Wonderful news!! We have been very lucky indeed. Wendy is now in charge of small items, just in case the phone falls out of the pocket again. Our trip to Genoa was ok, and we arrived later that afternoon. We took a stroll that evening, and at once felt very unsafe with narrow streets and what appeared to be a fairly low socio-economic area with young shady people hanging about. We then tried to remember why we were staying in that town. To be fair, the area we were walking was not the greatest, so perhaps other areas were better. We were staying in Genoa as it is much cheaper than staying at Sainte Margarita, ... read more

23rd and 24th May We left about 7:15am for a train to take us from Kolback (near Hallstahammar) to Katrineholm to then catch the train to Oslo. Our ticket to Oslo was from Stockholm but it was much easier to take the train from Kolback as Hallstahammer is some distance from Stockholm. Our trip was very long, but it was really nice to see the countryside. We arrived in Oslo mid afternoon, and were met by Ingebjorg, who is a Norwegian lady we met 5 years ago when she and her colleague (Unni) came to visit Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Ingebjorg and Unni stayed with us at our home for a few days, so we were happy to see them again. Both Ingebjorg and Unni are principals of 2 very different types of schools for children ... read more

Wow, what a difference Fra and Jo have made to their home, both inside and out. The conservatory at the side had been dismantled, an extension built on to the existing building complete with a new upstairs master bedroom and ensuite, and then the conservatory re-built. A new garage shed area has been built outside with extensive revamping of the garden. All this has been done since 2000. May 16th. We enjoyed the day just catching up on washing, and resting, then a great meal of Chinese with the McElkerney family at night. May 17thand 18th. We enjoyed the day with Joanne and the kids at The Ulster Folk Museum, in Belfast, on Saturday, and Sunday we had a walk to visit Brian and Mary, some people I (Wendy) met when last in Belfast. Brian showed ... read more

May 4th. As mentioned earlier, we were able to get an upgrade again into business class with our frequent flyer points and this time we were upstairs in the Boing 747-400 for the flight from Singapore to London. The trip was indeed great, and as we were able to lie down, we both slept most of the night; I can heartily recommend business class for the long flight. At the end of our trip, one of the young male flight attendants came up to us and gave us a huge bottle of French champagne for us to celebrate our trip. This was extremely out of the blue!! We were quite taken with this and of course very appreciative of his offer. We were fast tracked through customs, as were all from first and business, and found ... read more

Friday 2nd May, 2008. We have left Melbourne for Singapore, leaving at 4pm, not 3:30pm. We were sent to gate # 11, which is where we went to after leaving the Qantas Club but there was no plane at the terminal. Rob decided to take a look at the departure screen again, and saw that we (and a lot of other passengers) were at the wrong gate. We had to do a quick jog to gate # 8, where we boarded our flight. Our boarding pass said gate # 11, but as we were in the Qantas Club, we didn’t hear the gate change, I guess. The Qantas Club was fabulous I might say, quiet, peaceful, food, wine, beer, showers etc, well worth the cost for this trip any way!! On board, we are sooo impressed ... read more
