Hi All Another amazing day. Today we tip-toed through the tulips..hundreds of different displays. They only show for @6 weeks from end of March to mid May. The place swarms with people from all over the world - lots of euros here!! It rained on and off and we were freezing at times. Enjoyed a hot chocolate and warm Dutch waffle topped with cream and chocolate sauce. Some illegal photo opportunities in the farmers field and we headed for Delft. Delft is one of the oldest towns in Holland. It has 2 huge churches where the royal family are buried when they die. The first is about 500 years old and it was leaning and fears were that it was falling down so they built another a few hundred years ago. The first one never fell ... read more

Travelled about 130 ks north today past Amsterdam with Hennie,Annemieke and Aunt Will. Pete got to drive most of the way and I got to back-seat drive most of the way. After a while he got used to everything being on the other side...wipers,indicators, gear stick and of course the lane. All in all he did very well. We were greeted by Aunt Riet's family. She is 85 and in good nick. Her 5 kids and their partners were there and we spent the day on a traditional flat-bottomed boat cruising along the canals of a typical Dutch village. It was incredibly charming. It rained a little at first so we sat beneath umbrellas but most of the trip was dry. They were great people and I felt immediately like part of the family. We had ... read more

April 25th....ANZAC DAY back home. Hope you all had a good day. We spent the day in the old part of Schiedam. The benefit of having rels here is that they take you to places that the tourists haven't discovered. Dad was born in this town. It was surrounded originally by 31 windmills and only 5 are left. They are beautiful and huge. We did a tour of a working windmill then took a silent boat along the canals around the town. We were the only non-Dutch people on board! The guide doesn't even speak English so Hennie translated and could have made up his own story for all we know. Apparently Dad took this tour a few years ago and corrected most of what the guide said. The town is famous for producing Gin and the ... read more

Hi All We made it!!! Flight to Holland was only 45 minutes. Somehow they managed to feed us a meal and coffee between the 2 seat belt signs. It probably would have been easier to feed us on the ground in Holland. Flight time is only 45 minutes but I think at Schiphol Airport they land in Belgium and then drive - the BA pilot did warn us!! Once on the ground we waited for our baggage -and waited and waited. Just starting to get worried when the only item we trusted to the airline gods appeared. Hennie and Annemeike were waiting for us. It was so great to see them again - I know, I have to say this as they can read this blog, but it really was!! It feels like we have known ... read more

Hi All Arrived Heathrow and in lounge . Neet has had a shower and I am now in the queue. Pretty smooth trip, few bumps over the tropics and up through Eastern Europe. Apart from that not a problem. Except Neet managed to spill a glass of water over my leg and seat - lucky it dried by the time I got to Singapore. I wasn't looking forward to 12 hrs in a wet seat. Famous people score 2 - James Tomkins - multi Olympic gold medalist Richie Benaud twice - Famous Cricket comentator (I think he is stalking us! - we saw him in Singapore and London lounges) He is only famous if you are Australian and watch sport - Anita almost knocked Richie over and still didn't notice him...(trained to observe). Anita thinks he ... read more
