Getting ready for a Trip to France and this looked like a great place to maybe keep everyone at home up to speed on what's the what. Or when we get home a place to send everyone for a nice electronic journal. This trip to Paris will be a first for both my mom and me. Its a destination both of us have always wanted to travel to. We are going in with very little french and I mean very little but we will muster through. On the trip we are hoping to catch the Arc de Triomphe, Tour Eiffel, Musée du Louvre, Notre Dame de Paris, the Catacombs, and Palace of Versailles. Side trips out of Paris should see us down around the Mediterranean Sea and up at Mont-Saint-Michel . While in Paris for the first few days we are staying in the historic Montmartre district made famous by the bohemians and the Moulin Rouge. After that its where ever our bags fall and we can find a room. We are looking forward to days of strolling the jardins, boulevards and sitting in the cafe's sipping coffee.

Family Vacation for 2011 is just around the corner. This year all of us get to go! Well excluding the dogs and cats. All places should really be pet friendly. Well maybe not all the pets. The dogs would be a blast though. So this year we aren't venturing very far from home. Just a little drive up to Estes Park. But we did something new this year and rented a house. Which is working out rather well so far. With 3 bedrooms we all get our privacy. I believe it has a couple of bathrooms which will be great. The feature we like best though is the hot tub and over sized hammock. :) Well I'll keep you all updated as we go. Pictures as they come. ... read more

Another rainy day here in Paris, despite that we still ventured forth and went to Notre-Dame de Paris. It was breath taking! Just a massive structure with so much to see both outside and inside. It was hard to see some of the art up top due to the rain coming down on us. We did for go the trip up to the towers and didn't walk around due to the rain. While in the church we got to attend mass, which was a special treat. This was another area that we could have spent days seeing. From the stained glass windows, the carvings, paintings and statues. As you will will see in the pictures they were very industrial with carving the church out of balsam wood. There are 3 rose windows all equally beautiful. One ... read more

Yes that's right we are back in PARIS!!! Have to say though we LOVED and I mean LOVED Versailles. Could have spent the whole trip there. The Chateau de Versailles is beautiful, (pictures to follow), and so much history. We spent 7 1/2 hours and didn't see a 1/4 of it. Plus it was raining to beat the band and we got a bit drenched (along with everyone else). Only thing that saved us was we took the mini train to Marie-Antoinette's little cottage (ha ha ha little right). So many paintings (6,ooo) and statues (2,000) and well other pieces of art (10,000) to see. The ceilings were just covered in art and oh so much to take in. We even had a bit lunch in the chateau. They have about four or five different places ... read more

Happy Halloween all and Toussaint!! (All Saints Day, bigger holiday here). Sorry there wasn't a bunch of pictures yesterday but by the time I got to the pictures is was after 11pm and I was pooped. Today was a travel day for us and while it wasn't a long trip hauling ones luggage up and down metro stairs and the train station takes it out of you. But we made it, we are here in Versailles and we are going to spend the day at the Castle tomorrow. (Gives us a full day) We did go by the castle but I decided to take pictures when we actually tour. So I will post more of the pictures from the last couple of days. Enjoy!!! ... read more

Bon soir! This is our last day in Paris for a bit (we'll be back on Monday). Today we went strolling around the Montmartre area today. Alot of sex shops, and I mean a lot. But other than that it was nice qauint side streets, little shops, cafes, pubs (there seems to be a rather large number of Irish Pubs here, none of which we have ventured into). This nice little stroll (the guy at the front desk said oh 15 maybe 20 minutes, when I asked him about a bus) lead us up to the Basilique du Sacre-Couer. What a beautiful church and a beautiful view of Paris. We sat at the base of the hill and had a little picnic lunch. There is a bit of a park here with a carousel, playground, snack/gift ... read more

Bon soir mes amies! It's about a quarter after 9 and we are just getting back from dinner and bunking down for the night. We have the Last Samuri in French its great. So we started off the morning with a quick metro ride down to the Musee du Louvre. What a magnificant place. Our metro let us out right inside the musee and we found a little gift shop that sold tickets. (which means we missed the huge lines at the ticket counter.) We made our way up to the Denon gallery. As we ascended the stairs we came first upon, assorted greek/roman sulptures, then we found Winged Victory of Samothrace or as she is also know as the Goddess Nike. Ascending even more stairs we came upon even more greek/roman statues and paintings by ... read more

We finally made it to Paris! WOO HOO!!! Planes were on time, found our way around rather well. Bought RER tickets to Paris without assistance (the booth was closed when we got down to the ticket area). Our first little adventure was getting through the turnstiles. We watched as others put the ticket in, took it out and walk through, easy enough right? Well not when you use the reciept and not the ticket. So we made the train, a nice ride in the dark wee hours of the morning, not much to see other than the train stations. Once we got to Gare de Nord where we caught the Metro and made our way to Pl. du Clichy. Finding the street was a bit of a challange in the dark as we didn't know what ... read more

Just about ready to leave, only about 8 more days... Weather should be nice and at least partly sunny there and low 60's or so. The exchange rate is getting a bit better too. 1 Euro to 1.48 USD last time I checked. Weather is looking pretty good too. Rainy here and in Atlanta on our way out, and then partly cloudy/sunny in Paris. Have less than 4 days of work left (WOO HOO), mom has a whole week! Its getting down to packing, and getting everything in order to go. :) So excited! Camera batteries are at home charging as we speak, took the camera out yesterday to get use to carrying all day long and did pretty good, to so warm yesterday that the neck strap was a bit sweaty after a while. So we are on the final stretch before the trip and getting super exicted! However had a horrid dream the other night that I got to Atlanta (our jumping off point) and didn't have my passport. So needless to say that will be the first thing packed followed by the camera, batterys, charger and SD cards, then all the clothes and what nots. Thought I would drop a preview picture in here of where we are staying. Its the Comfort Hotel Paris Montmartre @ 13, rue Lecluse · 17th Arr., 75017 Paris, France for those who care, and well those that don't too! Should be nice they even have afternoon tea. ... read more

As we really start the count down (20 days), Mom and me are starting to get the last of our wish list together on things to take. Checking on the weather daily to see whats ahead. Mom got new shoes last night and both of us got SurePAC's. They come highly rated for travelling as they are supposed to be theft, slash proof. We'll see! I just didn't want one of those stupid travel wallets that tuck into your shirt or down your pants. Don't need any red flags screaming "TOURIST". Should be fun and I will try my best to keep this updated on the road. Just need an internt cafe or a business center in a hotel. :) ... read more
