Pave your Path

What started as a two week trip to the Czech Republic to teach piano has turned into a solo adventure through Europe and Asia, when I'll return, no one knows! My plans on this trip are very few, and my compass is internal. I have no idea where the road is going to take me, only that I'll pave my own path as I go.

I had a beautiful day today. I can't explain it better than by saying I just know I'm in the right place. Today was a long one. As with the other mornings, I had a hard time waking up, and an even harder time staying awake during the morning session. We opened class as usual, sitting in a circle with our left palms facing upwards and right palms facing down, hands adjoined, knees all but barely touching. Pancho went into detailed lecture on the Trikonasana poses of the sequence. I have to admit, I fought to stay awake, HARD. Thank goodness for note taking. I was so relieved (as always) when we finally got into the asana practice. Finally, a chance to move my body and wake up. The asana sequence feels so easy to me. ... read more

september 5, 12:16pmI´m finally leaving the Açores. I almost can´t believe it. I´m so ready to leave, but at the same time, I know I´m leaving a piece of my heart in this beautiful place. It´s hard to believe that I spent the entire month of August in Portugal, and a full three weeks with Shannon´s family in Sao Jorge. I learned so, so much. I learned so much, and I´m so grateful. It was just so right. That´... read more

PART FIVE, PORTUGAL I took a bus from Madrid to Lisbon. 30€, 8 hours, arrived at 4am. We were a funny bunch, wandering around a deserted metro station, unprepared for Lisbon´s cool weather, and unamused to find that the metro does´t start operating until 6. Luckily there was a girl that spoke Portuguese that got us bus directions, and somehow or another I made my way to my hostel. Also very fortunately, my hostel was walking distance from the bus station, they had 24 hour reception, and the person that checked me in was ve... read more

PART TWO, CAMP (Miřenice, Czech Republic) The next morning my nose piercing fell down the drain, so I walked over to the center (in shorts and a tank top) to buy a new one. On the way back it started to pour, and pour hard. I walked up the huge hill and got back to the pension completely drenched. The owner was nice enough to drive me to the train station. The trains were late because of the rain, which meant I missed my connecting train…I´ve since learned that Czech trains aren´t very reliable. Also, people in the smaller towns REALLY don´t speak very much English, and they don´t announce what the name of ... read more

PART ONE, PRAGUE ON MY OWN I left Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 27. My parents waved goodbye to me at the gate, which I walked through with my 20 pound suitcase and a whole lot of tears. I cried through the security check then pulled it together, got on the plane and cried then fell asleep, then woke up and felt excited, then cried some more. The lady next to me didn´t speak much English but at some point she looked over at me, patted my hand, and said "don´t cry, you are going to be great!" I thought that ... read more
