Hopefully this post for today can be shorter because we just spent the entire day at the lake, Lac de Orient, with limited activities. It was an early, and VERY long, day which consisted of some canoeing, swimming, Obut, and rowing on a longboat. Besides that, it was pretty much doing whatever you wanted in 85 degree scorching sun. My roommate was able to set an alarm the night before, so we woke up at 8:30am to be on time like we were supposed to. Since I had gone to be at 1am the day before, I was a little groggy at first. I decided against showering because we were going to a lake so I'd be getting nasty anyways, so I just threw some clothes on and packed a bag, then I was ready to ... read more

Today was the day following the big Gala here at UTT. For other people, it was probably a rough day, although many people, including myself, seemed to have been very responsible the night before. As a quick overview, today we were going into downtown Troyes to first have lunch, they take a tour, and finish with dinner. After that, we were to head back to UTT to get ready for our big day at the lake on Monday. Our scheduled departure time for downtown was 12:00pm. I went to bed at 3am following the Gala, and due to the lack of an alarm in the morning, my roommate and I woke up at 11:55am the next day. Obviously this didn't give us a lot of time to get ready, so I just threw on some clothes ... read more

So I'm trying to write this before it fades from my memory, but the days have been long and busy thus far so some details may end up being forgotten. As a quick overview, today (actually, yesterday, but shh) was a day that was more leisurely during the day, and much more happening in the evening. It started with some sporting events in the UTT gymnasium, and ended with an enormous party that dwarfs any at the University of Michigan. It all began at 1pm (the afternoon) when I first awoke from my 13-hour slumber. For me, that is a feat I've accomplished only once before in my life. I usually can't even sleep past 8am. I guess that's what losing a day in airport madness will do to you. Anyways, I woke up and went ... read more

Well, after a hectic week getting prepared for this trip (i.e. buying new clothes, toiletries, shoes, converters, credit cards, etc.) I finally left. My departure date really snuck up on me, almost to the point where I'm not entirely sure I am mentally prepared for this experience yet. I mean, it's much longer than I've ever been gone before (to New Zealand in 6th grade and France/Italy in 12th grade), not to mention much more independent. I also found it MUCH harder ever before to part with the people I love back home (you know who you are; you're getting an email telling you I updated my blog). So far, this has all added up to a pretty rough start, but I'm hoping I will settle into my routine soon. On the morning of Thursday, May ... read more
