oh man. take care of your ankle! I want it to be strong enough to hike around the alps with me. of course I use the term 'hike' loosely. glad you're making friends with an amanda. we are good people. and finally, i laughed pretty hard at your description of the red wine. i believe that's what they call 'oaky' flavours. but 'tasted like a tree' is way better.

You do a very interesting job of describing of what you consider less than interesting days. This program sounds like such a good blend of classes and activities, all shared with good people. I'm sure the work load will increase as you move forward, but you know that you have the travel weeks at the end, so it will all balance out in the long run. Received a credit card promotion for you that sounds just right for the kind of stidemt starter card that we were discussing. I'll tell you you more about it some other time. Can't wait to hear about your experiences with canyoning, rock climbing, bungie jumping, and paragliding -- I don't think I have ever done any of those so I look forward to your description of your experiences this weekend. Love, Dad

What a great day!
Dear Patrique, You certainly have had an active and fun-filled couple of days upon your arrival. It seems that you are discovering your "inner frenchman" especially in regard to the food ! It is delightful reading your day-by-day account of thee first few days. I'm glad you are off to a good start and having a really good time. My census work ends tomorrow and then I can go back to being unemployed/retired. It's been a good experience but I'm glad it is almost over. Bon nuit (did I get it right? probably not...) Lots of love, Daddy

Congrats on getting to your new home safely! I can tell you from experience that the hardest part is over :) Now settle in and have some fun! All us girls miss you, especially Mash (don't worry though, we are giving her lots of extra squeezes to make up for it). Remember: every day is an opportunity for adventure!!

Welcome to Europe, land of fabulous and weird things! Sounds like you had quite an adventure. I've never been to CDG but the runway/bus thing is fairly common in European airports because people here are insane. A tip for successfully navigating life in France:even if you don't speak french, asking them in french if they speak english before you talk to them in english will get you a long way. So have the small exchange first: bonjour madame/monsieur, parlez-vous anglais? and it should work better. We'll skype soon! Have lots of fun and when your stomach settles down eat all the cheese possible because it is effing amazing. Give me a call on skype whenever you want/feel lost/have a question since we're only an hour apart and I have skype on my phone, so I'm on all the time.
