Excuse me? I think you'll find that Mum said she wanted a picture of her with her favourite BOY. Something about having it framed or something.... Actually, I know you just photo-shopped me out because you can clearly see just how much taller I am than you now...
Additional notes. Yet another inspiring entry. But I have to say that you forgot to mention a few things... One beautiful rendition of Brimful of Asha and its consequences... some say it caused an eruption of violence that could easily be compared with Vesuvius' eruption, occurring some 2000 years ago, not so far away from that very room. Also, you state that the only way to relieve yourself for free in Venice is the ol' train trick but you and me both know that at 5 in the morning the deserted streets of Venice are often stained by the filth of young thoughtless tourists (quite literally) - Conveniently missed that bit out didn't ya? Also you claim that you don’t know why you were watching me change, but then, pictorial evidence from your camera suggests you make a habit of it... Explain that
Awesome! You continue to amaze Ol-Bang... I esp liked the part "while we told them great stories about all the sharks and crocodiles we see when we go surfing in Perth".... FOSH! But I'm sure it was a great conversation starter with some lovely french ladies!?
Best Opener "Il y a sept personnes dans ma famille" will probably always remain the most versatile and engaging conversation starter in the French language. I can't remember, but I HOPE I opened with it in the tourism office.
Please disregard the previous comment.
glad to hear EAWO is still working for you... If you walked into the tourism office and said, "Il y a sept personnes dans ma famille" then I do not blame the tourism lady at all for being rude!! But it looks like you had a lovely time, and so sweet of you to take your brother (even though your theory almost made him sleep on a bench). Take care
Viva la France! Hi Oliver, Suddenly found the time (and patience) to work out Facebook and Blogs and stuff like that. So good to see you and am enjoying your travel diary. How great that there's another Gee - probably apart from Judee and Grayem - who find Paris and Parisians charming and friendly - well, all the French people and places pretty nice - Paris is the best city I've been to, I must say. And you're right about the 'speaking French' bit - I've never understood why English-speaking people feel everyone else should speak their language. Francais is much more fun.
Great to see what you look like now that grown up. Very Gee (especially the nose) and Eddie looks pretty much the same only grown up. He had just started school when I saw him last. And as for the photo that had the lovely Elizabeth in it.
Look forward to reading more of your adventures.
Love Shirley
Laughing Cook The Cook at the Tiny Restaurant couldn't stop laughing & staring that Mr Oliver Gee (a Mzungu/white man) had acquired a taste for & could eat so many Chapattis! She was dumbfounded..Go Ollie, Go!
Happy border official LOL..I was the last one of the group to be stamped in, the border guy was stamping everyones documents with a gleaming smile on his face that reached his ears! Mission Impossible achieved with the dead arm break dancing move.
No Money Pool Trick Best trick - you never mentioned the 7 or so games of pool we won(hustled) with no 'kwach' in our pockets (in Dar) & the guy went red with anger!
Lion Love the story about the lion...I was really into it and wondering if you were going to make it alive...Well I kind of knew that..lol but it was great to read it ! Keep up the good work...
Bravo ! Bonjour, so you made it to Paris...nice ! I'm glad you found a nice French lady like that...never met any...lol. But that was quite an adventure for both of you...I'm still in Chicago, flying to St Maarten in a few days and then off to France to visit my family in Burgundy...let me know if you're around ! You are more than welcome ! BTW I have a cousin in Paris...for next time...
Did you speak French ?? Hope so !
Flying back to Perth on August 30th ! CAN'T WAIT !
Wow ! Hey !
I'm Julie Tilman's sister, she showed me your blog a few weeks ago when she visited us in Brisbane.
I've always wanted to go to Africa and after reading your amazing stories and looking at the pictures I really really want to go !
Hope you are still having a nice time around the world !

Stolen Jumper Devo about the Jumper buddy! I was going to put up a reward for it's safe return! But I wasn't sure about the exchange rate...
"1500 Kwach for the safe return, the grey jumper for which I yearn!"
Good Read Oliver Your not the little boy I remember you as. You would probably not remember me but regards to Peter and Ruth. If you are emailing Martin also pass on regards (and email) from myself and Rob Gain (Kiwi from Christchurch) Martin's class of '79

dance off mate, i loved the story, but thought i had to tell you that the latest issue of FHM lists breakdancing in nightclubs as ... NOT COOL!!! i immediately thought of you when I heard that - proof it still rocks in Africa!
French Drop Understand that you are also incredibly good at French Dropping borrowed money - but note, do not want to see "incredibly good" quoted out of context in your blog intro - MGD
