Hola from Hanoi! Guys - sat in Hanoi at the end of day one having a G&T at the Metropole (fab hotel!) and thought of the two of you and the tooth surgery... Loved Hong Kong, and loving Hanoi even more! Went to see Uncle Ho this morning, wandered the streets today and off exploring tomorrow. Friday is Halong Bay, then off to Hoi An and Hue, then finally to Ho Chi Minh City - cannot wait! Must compare Vietnotes when we're back... A & J x
Dinner Fort Cochin Hi Niall and Dee,
So we were doing a bit of a early/late Spring clean and I came across your blog address! We've been meaning to get in touch to say hi and find out how the rest of your trip went. Dinner in Fort Cochin was great and as it turns out we were hot on your heels for the rest of the trip - we read your guest book entry at the Rose Garden Homestay and I think Tomi and Deepak took us on the same walk round the tea plantations! What a refreshing place after the heat and hustle of the city. I hope you guys are well and you enjoyed the rest of your trip. Good luck with whatever adventures you're planning next and if you ever fancy a trip to the Highlands we've got great skiing conditions right now!
Take care, Rachael and Chris Gingles
What a great year! I bet you can't believe that it has been almost a year since you first set off, what an amazing journey you are having. Do you have enough time for Aus? Oh, try the Durian fruit in Thailand, it'll be an experience you'll never forget.
Hope you enjoyed Cambo Hi Niall and Dee
Hope you enjoyed your stay in Cambo....it does have its problems
however the I am sure you found the locals are really friendly...
The Church and the Train Station were designed by the same man
Goggle ...Vann Molyvann...and go to the projects page...
St Michaels Church is my project and I am trying to give
exposure to the Train Station which is a 60s piece of artwork
I am sure it will be knocked in the next few years...but...
like Ireland in the 20s , it is part of their heritage and they will
miss this amazing architecture in the future...
Memories Hey guys!Aww that was cool definitely summed up Cambodia really well!!!The crocodiles were so random!!!Loooking froward to the thai entry!!Sad to be home x x
I recognise that box of clothes on the moped, it arrived in Fermoy within a week. Now that the trip is coming to an end we will miss the blogs which are always uplifting. Looking forward to seeing you next week.
Im famous!!! Wow guys I am honoured to have finallly made the blog!!!That dentist photos is soooooooooo funny especially as I had to sit with Niall the previous day and reassure him that Dee was going to be ok! Was so impressed with him that week so sweet minding Dee will always remember dashing through Hanoi trying to beat the humidity to bring back Dee some frozen yoghurt:)
Namtastic! Three more amazing weeks (bar the emergency dental surgery, wondered when that would feature in the blog). Me thinks Vietnam will certainly feature in your top 10 list of amazing experiences in the MATWT (McCarthy Around the World Tour). Really great pictures as well, especiallly the one of you two taking a break from boarding.
Not many installments left to read, however really looking forward to seeing you when you get back and seeing all the new finery.
Miss you!
Again good stuff... That was a great entry....got the smell of China and the Asian Continent..
I will be in Cambo from friday....hope we meet up ...:)
PM me on hotmail.....D x
Chinese Medicine? Was hoping to get tales of woe of emergency dental surgery in Hanoi. I wait with bated breath. Funny updates. LOL about the pandas and can't wait to see more pictures of the Wall, Beijing, and of course the lazy pandas. Not long till you make your way back to London!
Hello Dee and Niall,
following your news with eager and interest! Just to let you know that Rami is back in London and we would love to meet up with you once you're back and after you've had some time to rest.
Enjoy the rest of your adventures and stay safe.

Jealous I loved india. I know exactly what you mean about the personal space thing but you know its so safe as well on the other hand!! I'd love to go back. It gets under your skin a bit I think. Fuck it, I'm gonna go again soon!
See you soon Darlings!!!

What a great blog update Dee, Niall - so glad the gift card came in use and opened the door to an upgrade. Fantastic! So sorry to hear about your backpacks getting pinched. Cannot believe it! Hopefully the trip through SA on safari and sampling wines did something to help you get over the loss. Can't wait to read the next installation on India.
Take care you two!
What happen to Botswana? Skip right through it? Hope you drank plenty of the local brew in Windhoek - well worth a 15 hour bus journey for. Namiba is well worth a return visit. Enjoy Cape Town.
What an adventure I could just imagine poor Dee crying on the bus and just felt for the two of you. Glad to hear Nkhata Bay was worth it. Can't wait to read the next installation!
a nice little interlude to my day thanks guys for the update - was great to read about something that is not irish news during my lunchbreak. Spring finally looks like it has arrived in Ireland!
Did you visit Pemba? I just finished a book, "So Much For That", by Lionel Shriver dealing, in part, with the Island of Pemba, which is in the Indian Ocean, north of Zanzibar. It is part of Tanzania, and is a major producer of cloves. I don't remember whether or not you got to visit Pemba, or even Zanzibar, for that matter, when you were in Tanzania. I've sent your account about Malawi on to a friend of mine who has spent a lot of time there. He was in the US Peace Corps in Tanzania, many years ago. All the best!
I love your missives! really great to hear about your adventures which sound unendingly exciting. wishing you lots of love as you keep going- how will you ever stop travelling now? xxx

Weird Isnt that strange I had a dream I meet two people from rwanda last nigth. when I asked teh woman if she was hutu or tutsi she started to cry...It was all-ireland day as well and we had trouble getting our campervan from away from the ground (whatever its called).
Anyway, nice blog, I liked it.

Sobering thoughts When you are in a country that has had so much bloodshed ...and so recent ..it sort of sobers you up wonder
how this can happen in this day and age...I fear Western Governments will let it happen again..mainly due to
ignorance ..it does have its upsides ...you meet amazingly positive people...that get on with their lives and do not
dwell on their past...
I like the pics ...seasoned travelers...somewhere between "Flashpacker" and "Backpacker"...lol
I am back in Cambodia...middle of April to mid May...if you are around the area..give me a shout...
Having both finished our jobs at the London Stock Exchange and JP Morgan in July, we plan to spend some time back in Ireland bothering our familes in August. Then in September our adventure starts in the Middle East on a trip from Istanbul to Cairo, then on to Nairobi for voluntary work with the Jamii Bora Microfinance Institute (http://www.jamiibora.org). From there we hope to travel to South Africa via Victoria Falls. Then a flight to India for a few months before travelling through China and some of South East Asia before a flight home. Phew - all of that in 12 months....
So to keep ... full info
