When things are too good to be true, they usually are. We left off in Junin de los Andes in a warm beds and house, our car issues had seemed to be solved; our transportations to the end of the world and back home again had been planned and paid for. However, yet again, our plan never unfolded the way it was intended to. Flights were changed, then canceled, then re-purchased, then canceled again. Not only were we not on the same flight anymore but we weren’t even leaving the country on the same day. Lets break this down… We left Junin de los Andes on our purchased bus tickets and were to make a few stops along the way. (Carl insert the stops.. I don’t have my tickets on me or the towns…) One great ... read more

Patience leads to virtue they say, or in this case, our car! After a lounging weekend of watching 3 or 4 world cup games, and exploring the underbelly of Guayaquil to find the cheapest food possible, we returned to the hectic shipping ports of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Having a pretty solid idea of what was to pan out for the day, we used our taxi driver Marlo again, to chauffeur us around, from port to port and weasel our way into people´s lunches to get our paper work signed, copied, and handed over to the right people. Our mission to get our car would require all the copies we had, and in addition, getting some of them stamped by the head Aduana office at the principle port of Marítimo. Then and only then, could we utilize ... read more

Panama: Well we left off when we were in Panama still at the Hostel in Casco Viejo. We were sending out emails like crazy and receiving nothing in return. En este mundo hay muchos preguntas y pocas respuestas. (In this world there are many questions but few answers.) We made endless phone calls and chased imaginary captains of boats. In the end, after a lot of stress we finally got a hold of one company, called Hamburg Süd. They were the least expensive and the first to reply to our phone calls and emails. This process was not without its own speed humps but we were able to leave our hostel in Casco Viejo and drive up to Colón to ship our car. (For anyone looking to ship their car from Panamá to South America, check ... read more

For those of you attempting to cross the Earth´s greatest short cut by means of the World´s longest highway, you must first unfortunately wait until it is completed. The Darien gap spanning more than 250kms, may be passable by some means of transportation, but none of which we had at hand. Aside from that, we had also been deterred from this path by several ominous stories of FARC gorilla awaiting passing tourists. Abandoning our roadway campaign we searched for a shipping company that would assist us in our long journey to La Patagonia de Argentina. Hamburg Süd shipping was the ideal company for us, as its prices were the lowest and they had a ship that would take our car down to Guayaquil, Ecuador the soonest. We had the option of going up to Cartagena, ... read more

Hello to all from Balboa, Panama Costa Rica: Monday night proved to be very eventful in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Carl went off to bed nice and early and was planning on listening to the rain to fall asleep. As you might have known it is the start of their rainy season in Central America and oh man did it rain. The gravel and dirt roads outside turned into rivers and our hostel was no match for mother nature. Water poured into the kitchen and over the front threshold, also coming in from the back of the building via the bathrooms. All hands on deck, everyone picked up towels, benches and rocks to build temporary walls, and pots & pans to start bailing out the hostel. All the while, Carl slept listening to the sound of the ... read more

If you have not already, you can subscribe to this blog and have automatic updates sent to your inbox when we have updated our blog in anyway. Guatemala: We left off in Antigua, Guatemala with a broken window and little knowledge of how and where to replace it. Deciding to have a change of scenery we headed up to a hostel that rested on the edge a moutain, which over looked the city of Antigua and the active volcanos in the distance. This was a Canadian owned hostel called Earth Lodge. We took this time to relax and prepare ourselves for what was ahead in our journey, starting off by setting up our tent and ... read more

Looking back on May 10th because now we have a computer. Canada: Starting at 8:00am in Sutton, Ontario. Co-pilot pick up in Aurora, Ontario at 9:00am. On the 400hwy at 12:00 noon after getting last minute trip cosas. First destination / pit stop will be Detroit, Michigan (Our last good meal, shower, bed) drive was just a smooth steady speed of 110 along the 401 W. Here is a shock! Easy entry to the USA! We arrived at the boarder with our truck full of gear for this trip. We were expecting to get searched and have everything tossed out but this couldn’t have been farther from what actually happened. For a second you would think you were coming into Canada. The young man and the boarder seemed more interested in how someone would ever drive ... read more
