Thank you Thank you for sharing your pictures. I dated a Colombiana for 3 years and traveled back and forth from the states to Bogota. Your pictures brought great memories.
Not bad.. thanks I am from Bogota, and living in teh US for 16 years I too see the difference in cultures and furthermore, I have been here enough to understand where we are comming from. Different pasts, different outcomes. Although I see some negative views about Bogota, I could see that all and all you seem to had a great time. I am glad for that. I hope you visit again!
desde COLOMBIA! Hi Nels,
I just wanted to tell you that you are still my friend. I miss you. Hope i can see you someday...invite me to your wedding...say hello to Lauren from me. NEPAL!!! Having been to Nepal twice, it is hands down my favorite country in the world. This was your best written blog - thanks for doing such a great job at capturing a country that I love so much, and thanks for visiting it with me!
one of your best ones yet I am an avid reader of all of all of your blogs, and I think this is definitely one of my favorites (along with the blog on Nepal). Great writing on Laos. Having taking an eerily similar trip myself to Laos, I would have to say that I couldn't have captured it better than you did. Oh, and I can't help but say that's an awesome photo of Turi doing a flip.
nipple. i mean nepal. hi nels!! i am so envious of you and that your in nepal. i went there not long after parting ways with you and it is such a lovely place, it was one of my favorites..... i get a pinchy feeling in my belly when i think of it. enjoy, enjoy. i reccommend renting motorcycles and touring around that way.

More Stories Please! It seems as though there must be more stories packed in Nepal with those pictures of you guys! I've always wanted to visit, I would love to feel the ambience of a buddhist culture, take care and blessings!
Nels! Nels Abrams! So good to have gotten an e-mail that directed me to your various postings. I thoroughly enjoyed perusing select entries, the tales of adventures abounding, and overall, an awareness that you're following through with plans that you've long had on mind to pursue. You and your family have remained in my prayers, and I have added Lauren to the list. Your memo on Spain particularly attracted my attention, in that after the first of the year I am headed that direction for a couple of months - Lord willing. I appreciated the shout out to future travelers to the country regarding the public transportation. I have made a note to self. Good to be in touch Nels. Take care of yourself and your girlfriend. I am glad that she has you there for company/security purposes.

Wish I was there. I did my own traveling this past weekend. I went to Vegas. That is far from the travels I get to read about that you are taking though. See you soon?

Strays that is one helluva stoic dog.
I have to say that picture cracked me up, mostly because of your decision to include it. And because of the title, "Dog".
I think the only more positive way to portray Istanbul would be to say something enlightening like, "it is the Las Vegas of the near Middle-east", maybe that would satisfy anonymous critics who don't realize you're making fun of how America's middle class spends its available leisure time working a second job to pay off credit card debt.
Clearly the rug merchants are on to you Nels, quit undermining their livelihood!
Cheers! living vicariously through you,
Nate
Wow It looks like this guy wasn't too stoked about my blog. I wonder if he even read it. P.S if the guy who wrote that gets the chance to read this: I think my blog was positive about Turkey. Maybe you should get somebody to help translate english better for you.
prejudices and centro-european arrogance I think you need to stay more in Turkey and travel to other cities too in order to get rid of your prejudices and centro-european arrogance.

Good work on the European leg. Sounds like you guys are still having a wonderful time.
It is probably good you experienced the Czech Republic before heading to India. Keep your eyes peeled there for scams and over charging.
Looking forward to the India posts...
lesson in civics Nels- thanks for the historical background and clear picture of your travels. I am very disappointed you have sunk to the level of Micky Ds. I raise my eyes to heaven and commiserate with dad on that one. Unless you can fit your next camera in your tighty-whities, I suggest you purchase a five dollar disposable.
Lonely Planet I myself traveled around the world for about 2 years. You should think about writing for Lonely Planet. Your mother will kill me for saying this, but don't come back to the states. After seeing the world, everything back home becomes real boring... Trust me.
Pretty good! Hey dude, I just stumbled onto your weblog here and I found it pretty good. Really man, you spent your time well here if you can talk with equal propriety about arepas and the babanera massacre. Really. You rule. So does my country (Colombia). Hope to mmet ya someday if you come back. Until then, bye bye. Beeyotch! (By the way, I'm a friend of Cielo's... you should remember her... she posted right above me... ok. Bye)
After one year and 16 countries, I am back home. We are living in my hometown of Spokane, Washington. It is great to be back. In a desperate attempt to keep the adventure alive, we have decided to train for an ironman triathlon. After so many bus rides and hotels, we were both feeling pretty unhealthy towards the end of the trip. My hope was that the training would make me feel vibrant and athletic. So far, I mainly just feel sore. Our other big news is that we are moving to New Orleans in September. I will be working there as a p.e teacher for a public charter school and Lauren is goi... full info
