Nestled in the rainforest above Ubud is an Elephant Safari Park. The park is a reserve for the 10 rescued Sumatra elephants that were featured in a documentary called "Operation Jumbo". For three days we fed, washed, rode, and played with the elephants. In the process, we learned a lot about these gentle giants.... read more

As we departed from Gili T on boat toward Bali, all I could think of was the song from South Pacific...Bali Ha'i. The mythical, mystical island with its tranquil, hazy image of the smoothly sloping volcano on the horizon. Our next adventure takes us high into the interior to the city of Ubud. Rich in ancient history, dotted with Hindu temples, surrounded by rainforest and terraced rice paddies. It is steeped in culture, the center of tradition, crafts, and dance.... read more

Our day began with a Balinese dance. The dances are ancient traditions. Most are connected to Hindu rituals, others are more social and artistic expressions. All are dynamic, angular and intensely expressive. Our day ended with tours of two of the most breathtaking temples I could ever imagine. No matter your religion, the beauty was spiritually moving.... read more

My mother always said to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Our journey to Bali was on a 'Hello Kitty' plane. How much more fun can you possibly have! It was a long flight (15 hours) but we slept through most of it and our awake time was spent catching up on movies. This was Patrick's first culture shock experience; we were now the minority. The pool was beautiful and the beach was simply spectacular; it was my first time on a black sand beach. The following day we went shopping(!!) and also saw a few sights in between.... read more
