It turns out that The Feitz is the place to be on Saturday night if you are a foreigner. I have met a few more Americans, including a guy named Kevin from Wisconsin who is teaching kindergardeners!!! I am having trouble enough as it is teaching 11 to 13 year-olds. I have also met a few guys from Turkey, some French, Australians a girl from Iran, a few Swiss...the list keeps going. They sell "Meters of Tequila" - which is a cricket bat with holes drilled in it that fit 10 shot glasses of tequila. I had a shot with 9 other foreign teachers, danced, chatted and had Li Quan beer (which is made using water from the Li River here in Guilin). The waiban for Guangxi Normal's shi-da campus (Guo Yuanbing) met us at the train station and packed all our luggage into a tiny van...which we all proceeded to climb into. Thankfully it was a short ride We were taken to the international student and teacher apartments they have here on the shi-da campus, which are nothing like what I expected. Our waiban at the Middle School gave those of us who are teaching ... read more

My hostess (who had just graduated high school and was preparing to go study English in Nanjing) called herself Shane. Her mother's name was Sun Lili. We had a great time just hanging out. Saturday afternoon I helped Lili make dumplings - which were absolutely delicious. The two days went by quickly, and on Sunday morning, they brought us back to the dormitory we were staying in. Our group traveled to a city called Xiebaipo. It was where Mao organized with other members of his Communist party before taking over China. We got a tour of Mao's stomping ... read more

After weeks of searching, I have found a blog that is not blocked here in China!!! Let me get you all caught up. I left for China on August 17th, just over 2 weeks ago. I had a lot of trouble with my flights, and wound up getting caught up in the O'Hare Airport for 5 hours more than my original flight schedule. Due to some confusion, Jordan and I missed our flight to Toronto - which was our connection to Beijing. We managed to get our flights changed after hours of running around and negotiating with various airlines. We caught our direct flight just in the nick of time and wound up flying with 6 or 7 other people in the CCEP. We landed in Beijing (after a 14 hour flight) on Tuesday the 18th. ... read more
