I am about to spend a year in Australia 😊 and I have decided to keep a blog so I can update my friends and family with what I am doing and how I am getting on. I will be working as an aupair for a family I already love in New South Wales. This will be my first trip to Aus, my longest trip from home and the first trip I have done by myself. Wish me luck and keep checking in for updates 😊

Finally I am sitting down to write about my trip to Canberra that happened over a month ago! (I started writing this yesterday, but I had 7 children running round like little bombs of mess and chaos all day, good fun though) So here goes. I went to Canberra for 2 days and 1 night staying in a YHA hostel which was very good I have to say, with Isabell, Val, Riina, Pauliina, Nicola, Viola, Anna, Viktoria and Kaddy (I may have missed someone out there.. it was a while ago). As my first experience of a hostel I was very impressed and I would happily stay again. It took us quite a while to get there, but it was worth it although I was so exhausted from the driving. I left home at about 7.30ish ... read more

Katoomba, Blue Mountains = breath taking On Sunday 22nd November, 8 other aupairs and I aka European Flavour drove 2 hours to reach Katoomba a town in the mountains to hike and walk through nature. It is by far the hardest workout I have ever done (You can imagine me walking to the top of a flaming mountain, red faced and heaving with jelly legs after about 5 minutes), We had so much fun because as much as it was a struggle we felt we had earnt the views when we reached them. The first trail took us up to Echo Point which is a huge lookout point with toliets and a shop as well as a lunch area and (thank God) some seats. However as we sat to rest we soon noticed people in sandles ... read more

I didn't make the name up! I was added into a facebook page for the aupairs living in and around Orange, from there we decided to make a new one and Kaddy (crazy German) named it European Flavour. Although we are out numbered by the Germans (again lol) we make some world war III jokes which are sometimes over the line, but we laugh. So the crazy new friends are from all over, German, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Italy and I am the only British one. They listen to how I pronounce the language so they know whats right, I've told them it may not be a great idea! We have been meeting up for coffee, dates with the children, for icecream and I have a birthday party on Saturday. We are also planning a weekend to ... read more

Sun, Sea and Sand! It has taken me about 2 weeks to get round to writing about this as it's been madness here. After about 2 weeks here we (Cherrie, Matt, Taylor, Harry, Jonte, Tilly, Shelly, Andrew, Lauren, Simeon, Abbey, Mitchel, Damo and Alysha) went to Manly for the weekend. We meet up with Andy and Kylie, Cherries friends and their 2 girls Grace and Chloe. The hotel (Novotel) was lovely, rooftop pool and amazing views of the beach. Luckly enough there was a Jazz festival on because of the long weekend which meant lots of stalls selling all sorts, jewellery, cloths, werid and wonderful food and different craft stall. They were all lined up along the beach so we took a nice slow walk along the beach and spent some money! There was also a ... read more

So much fun! Tay and I took the quad bike out for a tour of the farm, we did about 30mins and still didn't cover it all, but I got to see some amazing views. I really don't want to start taking the landscape out here for granted and start to miss how breathtaking it is. At home when I look out my lounge window I see a road and the house opposite, here I see for miles and miles, rolling hills, animals (creepy and cute) and the sunrise and sunset. We went around the paddock and saw some of the animals, cows, sheep, bulls, horses, dogs and of course some lizards etc. Well Tay actually ran a lizard over, but we went back and it was gone so it must have been fine. It felt ... read more

not so cute .. My first experience of just how farm-like this place is, not only did I stain my nice white pumps with green lamb poo!! I was covered in mud and God only knows what else when I got back. Needless to say I will be better dressed in 'farm' clothes next time. It didn't start great as Cherrie took some of the children up while I tried to pull together an outfit that was acceptable as 'rough clothes'. It ended with leggings, a strap top with another over the top and the only shoes I has which weren't stappy sandles or heels, I did look at myself in the mirror and didn't think I had gotten it spot on really. So armed with my not so great clothes, my phone and Gus the ... read more

First of all I need to catch up about my flight, the second half of the longest journey of my life! (and for once I am not exaggerating) The second half was a lot better than the first as it was shorter for a start and I found episodes of Game of Thrones, True Blood and some newly released films! Happy days :) The car journey form Sydney to Molong wasn't long- about 4 hours - which seemed like nothing after the flight and it went fast as I had Cherrie and Tay to talk to. Well Tay was ill so she wasn't as chatty as she is now- which is a lot - her feeling ill turned into a bacterial infection and she ended up in hospital. I spent Saturday night with her on the ... read more

the flight... So I am waiting for my flight from Hong Kong international to Sydney Kingsford :) I have just arrived from my 11 hour flight from Heathrow where my mum and sister were nearly arrested for taking photos of me going through security! What a family day out! Luckly I had films, music and TV to keep me going on the flight, but I by-passed a few meals! I was luck to arrive on that flight as my ticket said GATE 13, the board said GATE 13 and where do I go?...GATE 5 trying to go to Bangkok apparently! What a start, it all gets better from there right? I'm hoping to sleep on the next flight of 10hours as I will be meeting Cherrie and Taylor for our 3+ hours drive to their house ... read more

Packing!!! What a bloody nightmare and I mean I have literally been dreaming about my packing it has worried me so much! As my mum has been away on holiday for 8 days I was left to pack by myself, yes I know I am 21, but I have a lot of clothes that I like. In the end I invited my crazy Auntie Sue to help and she was ruthless with me, we ended the morning with a suitcase full of essencials and a lounge covered in clothes, shoes, bags, belts and products. All of these clothes had been deamed as England clothes so as you can imagine it was big jumpers and boots. After a very trying morning for Auntie Sue I felt a lot better :) since then I have continued to un-pack ... read more

Preparations As this has happened so fast, most of my friends and family don't realise the stress which came with finding the right host family. So I originally joined an aupair website, (aupair-world.net) which you just create a profile about yourself, your likes, dislikes and what you expect and are looking for and then you are able to search for families, the idea is to look at the information they have and if you like them email them. It works both ways as families search for matching aupairs, you can decline families and they can decline you, but it has go be right for both of you so I didn't get offended I would rather that than be lead on. Once you have a response or if a family has emailed you, you are able to ... read more
