Such a sham about Ta Prohm - that was one of our favourites too...we remember being the only people there and getting some fantastic photos. The changes you describe are part of the reason we haven't been back, too scared that our memories of Angkor wouldn't live up to the renovated and restored reality!
Brilliant pictures as usual! Hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves
:) Amazing photoshop on pics :) i didnt think of this ! great pics too...
i was there in 2008, nothing seems to have changed!...check my blog !

We so agree with you about the travelling part - retreading and revisiting for us definitely means we don't care as much about the journey any more, we just want to get there! What's the point in taking a 14 hour bus if a 2 hour flight is the same price and you've already done the journey?!
This blog brought back some memories for us, we haven't been back to Luang Prabang since our first visit, we loved it though and the bakeries. Hopefully we'll see you at some point!
Awesome Tattoo! Hey Guys, I haven't read your blog for a while so just caught up and fabulous reading.. and viewing!
That tattoo is just awesome.. like you say the colour really pops so you must be so pleased with it... it's kind of pushing me to pull my socks up and get my next one organised!
Hope you are having fun in Laos.. how is the beer tasting.. pretty nice hey!
Take care all of you and look foward to the next instalment.

Trans-Siberian I, too, travelled 3rd class but quite by mistake. I was so happy to get a ticket after 3 hours of trying in Moskow, I didn't know it was 3rd class. I was up one night listening to a Russian bear of a man snoring. The Russian girl below was awake as well and we looked through her phone pictures out of boredom. From the photos I think she was a runner up to Miss Irkutsk. Sadly, she got off while it was still dark and I never really got a look at her. "I name Veronika." was all she knew in English. Lake Baikal was still frozen in late April, but still so beautiful.
St Petersburg I had a heck of a time finding my hostel. It was behind a locked door with no number and one flight up. But it was on Nevsky Prospekt! I was overcharged for a snug little room with a bed. I couldn't get over how unhelpful the Russians are. The waitresses were sullen. But the people were so good looking! Everyone looked like they were hurrying to a photo shoot.
I loved the walk across the various bridges and those light-houses are so weird. I hope you saw the four horsemen statues on the small bridge. My Nevsky Prospekt page = http://magazinestylebeauty.com/?page_id=230
Baltic state of mind I went through the capitals in the same order as you. It's the best way because each gets better. In Tallinn, I threw away my tourist map and just walked around at night. What fun! A local told about a cheap place to eat. The food was ok. They didn't have a computer at my hostel so I inquired about an internet cafe. "Why not use our computer?" the waitress proudly said.
45 minutes later, I finally got a one-line email sent. The computer was also from the mideval period.
Travelling with a family!!! I think its amazing you both are traveling with your children! How is that like and how does it make things different for you both?
Its the other way round I have just come back from London. I had gone to London and Edinburgh. While reading your blog about my country, really felt nice reading specially the last line. We as Indians, also feel the same for the filth around. You will understand it by reading my blog on London travels too. Its not that we will not change, I think our country is evolving, we know we lack systems, but it never too late. When Indians can give world its first Intel chip ( by Vinod Dham), its first mailing system ( Hotmail by Sabeer Bhatia, bought by Microsoft) , its first observatory ( The Jantan Mantar you saw), Its first urban civilisation( Indus Valley Civilisation) than I think have it in us. India has the biggest youth population in the world now, and its modern, educated and evolving it self to the world around. I am sure India will also change. Bye the way you are most welcome to India once again. Do try to read a blog myroom of Kavita Sahria, if you want to explore north east of India ( Darjeeling falls in North East of India).
About Ho Chi Minh city It is a very good place to visit in holidays. The sun set picture is very beautiful and all the remaining pictures are also good

HDR Michael,
These places are gorgeous and I'm sure the original pictures too, you are butchering them with this faux-HDR effect. They look like 80's hippies wall decor.

Internet in China Hey, this is an awesome blog and you take really great photos. I'm heading to China in July to teach English for 6 months and I've heard that facebook is blocked so I was thinking about starting up a travel blog like this to keep in contact with everyone. So were you able to use this website with no hassle in China? And do you know is Skype is blocked or not? Thanks heaps, you've got me really excited to go!
Truly rubbish Ha ha, I totally agree. I thought the pandas looked just like disillusioned old men, chewing grass and grumpily watching the world fall apart around them! Glad you made it to yangshuo too, so touristy but so beautiful. You are making me jealous!
Panda/Polar bear? Daisy said it was a polar bear - close but no cigar. She would like to feed it it! but little point unless she can seek out a large quantity of bamboo um and a ticket to china. Think we'll stick to the ducks for now :o).
re panda's genitals - same problem as most then ha ha ha
So... It's been six years since we got back from our big family travels. A lot can happen in six years and the kids are growing at a pace that's completely overwhelming.
We have 'settled' back into life in the UK, which for all its problems is an amazing country and we love it here. We've got back on track with our careers and the kids are progressing well with their schooling.
As for travel, thankfully we still haven't stopped. Over the last few years we've been to a few more places in Europe, spent many weeks in Thailand and Malaysia, celebrated our 10 yea... full info
