travels Hey there...the pictures are just breathaking and have been all the way through. However the beaches aren't really the reason for travel are they, and although cambodia's history is truly awful, I guess that's the kind of thing you really should learn about, which sort of justifies the trip. It's important that these things are common knowledge across the world. Anyway, keep on trekking and keep on posting! 3 Weeks til dissertation's in...I need the support!
wow Sounds like your having a great time!! I am sat auditing near Heathrow Airport so living a very different type of dream!! Keep sending the pictures and news. stay safe Caroline x
What to say? I happened to be listening to "Imagine" when I began reading your blog, and I have to admit I was quite upset by the time I'd finished it. Written wise, for me, that was the best blog so far. I will learn more about Cambodia I promise.
wow you have no idea how much I would rather be out travelling like you than stuck here in an office in front of a computer all day. Good for you for getting out there and seeing all these amazing things! if I close my eyes I can almost imagine that the whirring of the air conditioning is waves lapping the shore, and the tapping of keys is some exotic bird... oh who am I kidding?!
take care xx :-)
animals yes the tarsier is incorrectly labelled the smallest monkey in the world, its give away sign to its correct family is its legs,it is infact a marsupial (like the kangaroos)and is indeed the smallest of the group.
the lizard you saw is undoubtedbly a Tokkay,(Gekkos Gekko),called Tokkay due to its distinctive call.Indeed one of the largest of the gekkos, common throughout south east asia. They sell them in snakes and adders in Kirkstall for 12 pounds,i nearly bought one last week but apparently, pound for pound there bite is equivalent to a rottveiler.
Lucky you used that pen and not your finger!
Even though some of the other blogs have been far more action packed - the last 2 have definitely been my favourite as even though I am jealous, its really lovely to hear you are having a good time in what has to be one of my favourite (although this doesn't really say much - I would include most countries I have been to in this category) countries...beware the traveller bubble you are on your way to - and remember Thailand is a great place (it actually is despite the sarcasm that follows) to meet other white people, dabble in sex tourism and eat Israeli food....(ignore me I am just wanky - make sure you go to the forensic museum) - hope you keep on having a good time....and thanks - distractions from work are always welcome...xxx
why oh why? Simon, as much as i love you, im not gonna read that! who do you think i am? someone who sits on their ass all day with nothing better to do? tell you what, summarise it in no more than 300 words (like you have to do in job app's), post it again, and then, maybe then, i'll read it...Good luck. xxXxx
Deja Fu I am sure that in some distant FUture I shall find myself thinking "Hey, havn't I been here before?" That's right - sarah and I have been planning a trip to Sipadan for the last few months! Get out of my head, evil spirit! Seriously though, keep having a good time. T
Hi! I seem to be stuggling with the technology here.... It sounds like you're having a fantastic time. Its great to hear your stories even if it does make me as jealous as hell! Take care xx
It means a lot man.. ..non really, you guys are like, really special to me. Oh God Simon's turned into an American. Now I hate him even more. Year of the Dog!!! I'm a Dog!!! Hmm, maybe I shouldn't advertise the fact....
Countless expressions I think that has to be some kind of first. As far as I'm aware, nobody has ever likened an experience to being "like the letters in a game of Boggle". Why do I fear you might be telling peopl more than you want to let on here? And the International Council for Word Usage has penalised you for over-use of the word "jaunt"... Loved reading it hun!! =0P
Jealous... Hmm yet more stories of how you're having an amazing time while the rest of us slog it out back home eh... still there's one consolation - while you state that it's take you until you're 40 to explore the place properly, at least I can bask in the fact that for you thats only a couple of years... ;p heh j/k me old buddy. (old, geddit - mwahahahaha). Anyways mate carry on havin a fantastic time and speak soon probs. MSN at 2am (for me anyway). Rory
deja vu last year,Helen and I emerged from the midst of a huge tropical storm, soaked through the skin, covered in mud and penniless,at the wrong terminal in kota kinabalu. Those fucking bus drivers!
Fortunately we too made it with seconds to spare to terminal 2 and I made a promise then that i would always check my terminal before the flight. (by the way the airport terminals are practically next to each other,we just ran over the brow of the hill?)
and yet,
less than 6 months later, back in kinabalu, that horrible sinking feeling hit me,as i stood in the wrong terminal building for the second time, with the 'interesting' addition of my entire family.
somethings in life are as inevitable as the sunrise.
my neverending capacity for idiocy being one example.
Hey I thought about that presentation as soon as I started reading this blog, and now im really jealous of everything you have been looking at! Wish I had been to half the places i've studied! Glad your enjoying yourself, take care H xxx
I've just finished University, at Leeds studying Geography, and have a year free. Since I didn't take a 'gap' year, but have had a taste of travelling for a while, it would seem only inevitable that 9-months away, continuing the geography experience, is in order.
Thought I'd keep a blog instead of pestering peeps every few days with mass emails about giant scorpions and losing my luggage in a semi-humorous way. Feel free to email me tho, and I will reply :)
Oh and the photo is my audition for DKNY's next sunglasses campaign...... full info

Travellers cheques
Hi Simon, Did you take travellers cheques, if so have you had problems cashing them outside of Manila? Glen
