Selamat!! Selamat malam Matt! Your tales of Java remind me lots of being in Indo last summer - it sounded a bagus trip, did you get lots of "Hello Mister" comments ("where you go?" "what you do" "are you married etc too). Were you woken up by the mosque calls at 4am? They do love their karaoke too! Sampai jumpa lagi Gx
Good photo.... Blimey - I think that tree planting picture possibly shows you at your most photogenic ever - well done!! I reckon the secret to success is situating you behind a tree, bean or cat.
Galton and peas Is this the same Francis Galton who founded biometry? ! Amazing if it is. This beats Darwin and his finches. Peas seem to be a great source of creativity for him, not only he invents regression, he also uses them to repair flasks!
Merrty Christmas to Matt Hi there Matt. It's early Christmas morning here and my turkey is in the oven and all other necessary chores have been completed. Wiith a couple of hours to kill before the television provides its usual festive films I've been doing a bit of 'surfing' myself and paid another visit to your blog. You certainly seem to be having a good time - although I'm not certain about some of the food or some of the local transport - especially that carabaw! I might have sufficient padding to make it more comfortable but that sharp back-bone looks positively dangerous! I note it's not all been hard work for you and I'm wondering what skills you have that permitted you to be part of the media team for that bikini contest! Your protestations that it all became a bit boring doesn't really ring true - especially with that 'Gwapa lady' photograph. Keep up the good work in the forests Matt and I hope you had a lovely Christmas - can I airmail you a brussel sprout or two?
Regards
Lorna
A real tonic Dear Matt
Love to read about your adventures and always end up laughing. You seem to be having a great time and are working hard.. no chance of you putting on any weight......is there.
Life here just goes along , we are now outnumbered by consultants.... say no more.
We just had a big internal move now to try and fit them all in
Take care love Ali x
Some geography Hi Matt Y! I am impressed with your guts to fly into an unfamiliar country, such as ours, and volunteer to preserve its natural resources. I notice you have forever been referring to your location as Lanuza. Also you have been classifying your location as just part of Mindanao. This information may be unsolicited but I can't resist to _share_ with you some Phil. geography. I have recently traveled to Mindano myself just a few weeks ago. Thanks and here's the link to where Lanuza is IN Mindanao.

Jealous Howdy Matt! Like the view from the front room, very jealous - I've got the M25. It's just not quite the same! I've got an important question for you. Why have you got a brush and pan tied to your bike? Do you sweep the streets as you go?
Dewde So, let us know how the surfing shapes up. After three years at Bangor I managed to stand up, but never look cool either on or off a board!
Amazing pics.
Can't say you're missing much!
Great to get your news Have really enjoyed the regular updates - it certianly brightens up some of the duller days in Edinburgh. Sounds like you have settled in well and enjoying it too! The diet, although exotic sounds challenging though nothing to a seasoned sailor like yourself. Any signs of a dingy as yet or perhaps something a little larger to spin around the bay in?
Keep up the good work and hear from you again soon.
Regards
Graham
I want one!! Can I bring one home when I visit? He would fit in my pocket for the journey!
We had trouble finding you in the conference picture. Dad says he has seen more fat on a greasy chip. Go eat some peanuts!
Howdy Joe! Gee, that's real tough... consider yourself honoured to be worthy of comparison with the great people of North America, rulers of all they survey and masters of the universe.
My bet for numner of people on a motorbike is 4, and the mystery object is dead easy; anyone who guesses anything other than a bronze statue of Nelson must be out of their minds.
Now Matt, I think it's time we had a little chat. I suspect that you need to take time out to visit Viv. There has been a Freudian theme in your photo titles that suggests a little time together would not go amiss. Not the bike one, obviously (sorry Viv!).
Anyway, on that note I think I'd better stop before I get myself into trouble. Enjoy the sightseeing!
Good for You ! Anyone who wants to protect the natural environment deserves a commendation. I'm all for the good deeds you intend to implement in our country - God bless you and more power to you ! cheers !
Motorcycle diaries Hi Matt- thanks for the update- now I really wish I was there too! Fantastic scenery..keep some footage to write your own motocycle diaries. Mozzies don't seem to make the top of your list of nuisances - hope it stays that way C.xxx.
wow Hi Matt... Hope you're settling in well over there.. Glad you've got there ok (did you fit the melons in your suitcase)
Very impressed you're having 1-1 tuition.. you'll be fluent in 'filipenese' (?) by the time you get back.. pictures look awesome! How are the trees? I went back to the botanics the other day to speak the Herbarium people over my dissertation.. thinking identification is a MAJOR task..
Anyway.. Off to meet Laura this afternoon who's back for a wee while.. nice and sunny in St.Andrews today though our beach pales abit in comparison to where you are I think.. Take care and keep in touch.. GILLx
WoW The beach, the beach... you lucky lad!
Well, it's good to read a post, but there are lots of unanswered questions, like 'do you keep a record of the cockroaches found in your bed?' and 'how will you stay faithful with monkeys THAT cute?' Also 'what are you eating in the picture?'
Blighty stays the same - cold overcast bureaucracy.
Mmm... Good fish Fish served with head? I think I can feel the Ross Roberts effect even at this considerable distance. Cuisine sounds delightful. All the best Matt. Work hard and surf harder.
Heroic indeed Dear Matt, thinking of you from Brissie- we are not as far apart as we used to be! Maybe you could organise sailing down to oz at some stage. I hope all is going well and that you are learning loads of useful stuff in Manilla. C.xxx.
Yum...fish heads Just to get this straight, is the eating of fish heads a local delicacy or are the fish just served with head?
Blog, blog, blog...hope this works.
Han.x
Heroic Mr Young, you're an inspiration. Great to see you last week, I hope all has gone well since. Currently busy enjoying the wet Edinburgh spring, now lit until 8pm thanks to the beauty of BST. Am expecting plenty of photos of sun drenched places and folk to allow us to enjoy your trip vicariously and in safety. Blogtastic, D.
(Unfortunately much of the enthusiasm I had for writing a comment has drained in the ten minutes it's taken to register with the site - here's hoping I've cracked it...)
