Memories of Jasper Memories of Jasper come tumbling back into the forefront of my mind although we didn't stay at a camp site. We did stay at a private house though when we were in Banff - somewhat the same system as you mentioned operational in Jasper. And you story of the drunk has prompted me to forward you a joke Kev sent me the other day - I'll try sending it here first but it might be too big. GREAT to hear from you again. I'm getting more excited by the day as we fly to Japan on Monday so will be travelblogging again myself soon!! M xx
a bit like N.Z loved the photos, reminded me of New Zealand and the Franz Josef Glacier where we climbed all over it after
landing on it in a helicopter, we did the drive to Banff once with a lot more snow on the peaks, the mountains
were breath taking, interesting to see them at a different time of year but it still looks pretty cold !
Memories of the Icefield Glacier Sure is a fantastic drive isn't it? We did it about 22 years ago and have a photo of Katherine holding Kev's hand as they both stand on the end of the glacier and Kev videos it. Maybe you can't remember its grandeur from your earlier visit because sometimes beauty evades youth...if you know what I mean!! M xx
Picas Pica is big, next to elite (for you old typists). I agree, though, that a pika is on the small side relative to its closest relatives, the rabbits. Pikas are in serious trouble right now, as the mountaintops to which they cling grow warmer. A pika can't tolerate 77 degrees (F) for more than 6 hours, so it's no good thinking they could run down the mountain and up another one that might be taller or farther north. Count yourself lucky to have seen one of these furry little squeakers! Wildlife hardly gets cuter than this (except maybe for a baby roo). Once when I was hiking, a pika ran up and chewed on my shoelace!
Lake Louise's glacier It was around 1985 when we were there and, from memory, there was still a glacier at the opposite end to the hotel. I must get the photos out to show you when you come back to Oz! M xx
bears, oh my So, I have friends who wore bells on their packs while hiking in Alaska--have you got some? We are hoping to feed you dinner when you get down our way-don't want to hear of you being...dinner!! Loving keeping up with your travels. We will be in Maine in July this year, so let us know when you will be getting the the southern part of heaven.
best, Kathy
WOW! It is great fun reading your posts, and the photos are fantastic! I am so glad that you are able to take this trip! What a treat, and a nice reward after raising Sky and Lucien!

Ah sweet memories!! Beautiful place Banff. The last time we were there - in fact the only time I think - our baby Katherine was not quite three years old and now she's almost 26!! I have some lovely photos of us at that time...it was the middle of summer and I look decidedly sexy in shorts!!!! Such gorgeous legs...what went wrong?!! *_* M xx
Fun blog! Hi Martha, I just started reading your blog -- don't know where I've been. Well, I do, but too long to explain. Great photos! I'm very jealous! We miss you at book club, although I've missed a bunch, too. What books are you reading? Any we might like to read?
I'll go back and read all the blogs. Where are you going next? -- Sarah
Hi M and Ph:
Thank you for sharing photos and dialog. When you were talking about the museum in Banff, it reminded me to tell you about the museum in Victoria...I think it is the Natural History Museum. It is close to the sound where the farries dock from Port Angeles. It was a wonderful museum when I was there some ++ years ago.
Keep having fun. Cool chef you have there!
