Lovely Pix; poetic narrative
I lived in California for four years and never saw any of what you are seeing.
I will have to put it on my bucket list. (Can you fund my early retirement?)
Lots of love from your man in community television,

Nearing San Fran From the look of all your pics this appears to be a wildlife trip you're on. But I was wondering if you are continuing another 200 miles south of San Fran - if so do drop in to see Hearst Castle at San Simeon - off the South Cabrillo Highway. It's well worth a visit. M xx.
The attack of the Pitcher Plants They certainly look ominous! But the beautiful Redwoods make up for any menace the Pitcher plants seem to extrude. Was that by any chance the Jedebiah Smith Redwood State Park you were in? M xx
Clear and present beauty! Smiths River looks gorgeous - the Franklin of California by the sound of it!!
Glad to see that Phil votes below the line on the Senate paper - best way in my opinion. I spent polling day - from 7.30am to 6.30pm - bumping in, bumping out and handing out HTVs for the Greens...then off to the pub at Hornsby afterwards. I'm quite excited about the hung parliament thing - I don't think it's the terrible situation which the major parties would have us believe. BUT PLEASE...don't let's end up with TA as PM!! M xx
Polling I bet the postal clerk/laundromat attendant had some comments to make about the ballot paper. I once produced my Victorian paper drivers' licence in New York (circa 1967) and provoked a lot of ribaldry.
Thanks Martha Thanks so much for this blog Martha. I must learn to do blogs.
BUT... at the moment it's almost COMP time again for Canberra Video club so must get back to work on that.
Hope to catch up sometime soon.
Love from us both Jennie Thomas and David Young Canberra
Great Photos Hello Martha and Phil,
I like the nature very much. You pics are truly beautiful. There you're no doubt in your element, happy as birds!
Take care. Love. Sonia
What a coincidence!! Fancy you going to Klamath Lake!! You probably won't remember but on our 2008 'round the world spending some of the kids inheritance' trip we spent a night at the Ravenswood Motel, Klamath on our way to visit you in Portland - see my travelblog "Wed 14 May - Adventures on the road" - hence I'm excited!!! M xx
Bend Hello Phil and Martha,
Your description of the activities for children at Bend (wonderful name - about as good as Ten Mile) is challenging my view of the US legal system. I would have thought the park's lawyers would have put the kybosh on setting up rocky outcrops for children to climb on. Good to see there are still some brave souls who don't mind risking being sued.
Thanks for the blog. It's itching the soles of my feet.
Colin
Hey Hey Martha. That place looks very bleak. I would find it hard to keep smiling.
I daresay it's a geologist's heaven.
It's looking like spring in sydney.
Great Time~~~~ I'm Tiffany~~
I wondered how is your great time...
I like your pictures.
You look lucky!!!!
I hope your travel is wonderful.
take care~ see U~~~
In New Mexico they are Apache Tears Small pieces of the obsidian glass were used by the Native Americans, as you say, and also dissipated throughout the Southwest. They are considered a minor "find" when out hiking in New Mexico, and they go by the name "Apache Tears." I unfortunately think I gave mine to my Goddaughter back in the States. Glad you two are safe and having a grand time. Nice blog. Can't wait to see your video (which I am sure you are making also).
Fabulous What an adventure you are having, and how beautifully you describe everything.
Thank you for including me.
Please come back to Joy's World to talk and show pix.
Love from Joy
Another great advernture!! Glad to see you're still enjoying yourselves. Here we are still in election hysteria but it will be all over by this time next week. PLEASE not Tony as PM!! M xx
Lava flows I don't know the age of this particular cone, but the lava looks much like Craters of the Moon in Idaho. Those flows cover a good chunk of the Snake River plain, and I always wonder what explorers and settlers first thought when they first came to these places. It is spooky enough to be driving on a highway built across them today, but there would be no way to cross them then, not to mention what they might have thought had happened there!
Hi There Martha and Phil (and Sky and Lucien!) Hi Martha and Phil (and Sky and Lucien too!) - Martha the link to your travel blog came into my inbox and it has been the most wonderful early Saturday morning delight to read through some of your adventures! I love your narratives and descriptions and especially the updates about what you have all been up to. It looks like you are all out exploring life and yourselves and making the most of everything! Thanks for including me! Love, Hilary
Needlework Thanks Martha
The weather looks gorgeous and so does the scenary. And it looks like you are getting on with your needlework. Is that one for Michael and Sam or have you long ago completed that??
Lovely to meet Denise and Bonny, during their Australian visit.
