Geo: 52.0579, -9.50747Adare to Killarney, County Kerry, Republic of IrelandWe entered County Kerry about 2:45 and stopped for a group photo on the outskirts of CastleIsland about 3:00. It was a very nice viewing area. 15 minutes later we made a stop that I can best describe as an obvious scam. We stopped in the town of Fossa (suburb of Killarney) at a place called Macken of Ireland. Dylan mentioned that if you wanted to buy something special for yourself or someone else this would be the place to do it. I must say after looking at the prices on the tags, I must really really, really, really love myself or that special someone! € 480 ($720) for a Cashmere sweater, a simple scarf was € 24 ($36), and a bracelet that a woman on our ... read more

Geo: 52.5643, -8.79035Adare, County Limerick, Republic of IrelandOn the way to Adare, Dylan started to talk about the lunch break we would be having in Adare. However, at times he is hard to understand due to his Welsh accent, and this was one of them. He mentioned something about Champaign something about a park and picnic and something about grabbing a sandwich. The bus pulled into a Tesco (like Costco) parking lot just on the outskirts of Limerick. When everyone began to get off the bus, I asked one of them just what was going on. Apparently we need to go inside, buy a packaged sandwich or food, and then when we get to Adare, we are going to sit in the park and eat the food and then toast those who have traveled with Insight ... read more

Geo: 52.6945, -8.82243July 12, 2010Limerick, County Limerick, Republic of IrelandI woke up at 6:15a.m. when my alarm went off. I tried to go back to sleep since I also had a set wake up call for 6:45, but I just laid there and couldn't fall back to sleep. I was able to finish all my blogging last night, and enjoyed a peaceful night. Although I faced the street and had the window open, the nightly noises and early morning traffic didn't bother me. Some other of the group that face the same street complained about the noises. When I came down to an excellent breakfast (yep, you guessed it, dry scrambled eggs!) many of the group were already eating. I sat down at a table with 4 other people whom I normally don't hang out with ... read more

Geo: 52.6639, -8.62677After traveling for about 10 minutes we were in County Limerick and in the city of Limerick. We took a short tour of the city as we traveled to the George Boutique Hotel. This hotel is like many hotels beginning to pop up in the larger cities of America. A developer buys a whole building and guts it. Turns the bottom floor into a shop or bar or restaurant (or all 3 if there is a lot of room) and the rest of the floors become a luxury hotel or condo. My room faces the corner of the shops, but the noise won't disturb me since it reminds me of Long Beach. My room is small compared to last nights, but it is a single so there is plenty of room for me to ... read more

Geo: 52.6945, -8.82243Galway to LimerickJust as we got outside of town, we passed a truck selling strawberries along side the road. Next thing I know we are pulling over at the next vendor. Apparently 2 people towards the front wanted strawberries. The vendor was so surprised that a tour bus stopped, he gave us an extra container for free. Soon the bus had a nice aroma. About 5 some of us were dropped off at Bunratty Castle for a medieval dinner in the castle itself. Bunratty Castle is located in County Clare and is part of the Bunratty Folk Park that we will be visiting tomorrow. The Castle is was built in the 15th century and restored in the 1950's. An actor dressed as a 16th century servant greeted us at the door near the original ... read more

Geo: 53.2789, -9.06619Galway Republic of IrelandWe made a 2 ½ hours stop for lunch in Galway. Dylan took us on a 15 minute tour of the main shopping area of the town. Many shops and buskers (street performers) were to be seen. The place was packed with people enjoying the sunny and warm afternoon. I walked around a bit, and then decided to try “SuperMac‘s” a knock off of McDonalds. The “”Super Mac” meal was just as I expected, like McDonalds, except that the hamburger patties were tinier than the bun. I then headed back towards the bus pick up area, stopping along the way to view the buskers and visit some of the shops. I was able to find a bookstore that sold 2 good books on researching Irish families (I have the Collins, Bradley, ... read more

Geo: 53.3378, -9.18002Cong to GalwayWe then drove around Lough (Lake in Irish) Carreb. Lots of good scenery. We made another stop in Moycullen, County Galway at the Connemara Marble Industries, which is an Irish gemstone workshop and jewelry manufacturer. I had thought it would be another interesting tour like the one we took the previous day, but no one was working today being it Sunday. We did have an elderly man explain some of the process and showed us different types of marble. I bought a few small items. After spending 20 minutes here, we were back on the road to Galway just as the rain began again. After a while it stopped and we made a quick photo op to view some of the mountains. We watched the sheep that had escaped the fencing and ... read more

Geo: 53.5435, -9.28601Cong, Republic of IrelandWe made an hour stop in a very idyllic village of Cong. Everything in this small village is made for relaxation. Getting off the bus, I wandered down the road that was parallel with a stream. It was hedged by trees and grasses. It had pretty little waterfalls and a cluster of ducks sunning themselves on the pebbled bank. The stream curved away from the village, but another relaxing location was next. The ruins of Cong Abbey begged my attention. It was wonderfully peaceful on a Sunday morning. One could feel the presence of God in this location. As I walked through one section another section was waiting to be viewed. I made it as far as the courtyard before a busload of teenagers descended upon the place and disturbed the ... read more

Geo: 54.2706, -8.47153July 11, 2010Sligo, Republic of IrelandI tried uploading my pics last night, but they wouldn't load. I tried again when I got up this morning at 6 a.m., and they still wouldn't load. Breakfast at 7 was the usual fare except they also had salmon and cheese available. The eggs were back to being runny again. I tried the boiled eggs, but they were still hot and I couldn't get the shells off without taking off the egg with it. My mood is peckish at best; I'm tired, I miss a normal breakfast, and it's that monthly time again. I am so ready for menopause! We left the hotel at 8. Now that we are in Ireland, Dylan states that there is an old Irish legend that if a woman sees 7 white horses ... read more
