Hi guys, sorry for the delay in updating the blog, since we last posted we've been busy, traveling has become a bit of a full time job :0) Cairns We arrived in Cairns early in the morning, via a quick stop in Darwin, after our mad rush down from Malaysia. After collecting our baggage we ran into a spot of bother at the customs desk due to a little souvenir we'd picked up in Chiang Mai! Apparently you're not allowed to bring anything made from endangered animals into the country, and what did we have?..only a picture frame made out of elephant poo haha! After a lot of joking the item was eventually seized and we had to hang around while a lot of paperwork was prepared..what a load of shit haha! We'd booked into the ... read more

Well Kuala Lumpur was hot, dam hot, hotter than a rattlesnakes tail! Hot and wet, as Adrian Kronhour once said.."which is good when your with a woman, but not when you're in the jungle" or concrete jungle as it were. 10 minutes out in the open and you sweat so much you look like you've jumped in the pool hot! Ok so you get the picture. As soon as we arrived we set off in search of the famous Petronas Towers, which weren't hard to find as they can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. These were absolutley amazing to see, especially at night all lit up. We're not generally that impressed with buildings but these were just awsome. At the base of them people were laying down on the concrete trying to get ... read more

We arrived in Cameron Highlands after a painful (for Steve) fourteen hour journey, to a place called Thana Rata. Cameron Highlands is the largest hill resort in Malaysia and is 1524 m above sea level. Its famous for it's tea plantations, terraced flower gardens, orchards and strawberry and vegetable farms. The cool climate, 10-20 degrees, makes Cameron Highlands perfect for cultivation, and for cooling down hot backpackers! A fantasy-like Mossy forest is also located at the peak of the highlands, at 2032 m above sea level. I felt like the Cameron Highlands was a mixture of India, the alps with a old traditional British culture, and of course a bit of malay. The restaurants here are mostly Indian, serving south indian food on banana leafs and rotis with dahl for 20 pence. Many of the cafes ... read more

Well we knew our 8 week visa had to expire sometime but even so we were sad to leave Thailand after spending 2 whole months travelling around this beautiful country! From the beaches to Bangkok, China Town to Chiang Mai we've loved every place we've visited which was a surprise for the both of us not knowing what to expect before we set off. All good things must come to an end as they say so we set off for Malaysia. Our planned 1 bus and ferry turned out to be 3 minibuses, 4 pick-up trucks and then the ferry so we arrived on the island of Langkawi after a 12 hour trip instead of a steady 6 hours. I dont know what it is about Thai travel agents but this is actually par for the ... read more

Koh Tao From Bangkok we took another night train down to Chumpon, on the east coast of Thailand. This time we were not so lucky and all the sleepers had been sold out, as well as all other decent seats on the train. We got seats in third class, one up from cattle class. The journey was a very uncomfortable, cold and dirty experience, not so good when you've got bronchitus! We arrived at Chumpon early the following morning and jumped straight on a ferrry to the island of Koh Tao which took about three hours. The first couple of days on Koh Tao we spent in the south, which is the more quite part of the island, in order for me to get well. After two days recovering, we hired a moped and relocated to ... read more

Wow, what a time we've had in Chiang Mai...our new favourite place in Thailand! Since we last posted we've done things we didn't think we'd ever get to do and met so many nice people along the way, it's been fantastic! Chiang Mai is around 700 km north of Bangkok, not far from the Myanmar (Burma) boarder and is seen fondly by the Thai's as their northern capital. Although a city with almost 205,000 residents, Chaing Mai feels like a small town, especially as our base was in the old town, a square mile, surrounded by a moat and city walls. Its got a similar feal to York in the UK, which was a welcome change from Bangkok! Apparently there are over 300 temples in Chiang Mai which we can believe! Rather than a day spent ... read more

So after a comfortable (but dirty) overnight train from Surathani we arrived at Bangkok Central Station at 6am. We headed off to our hostel in a taxi and after dumping our bags we took a walk to the nearby Lumphini Park, the largest park in Bangkok. The first thing we noticed about Bangkok was how clean and orderly it was, this completely took us by surprise as we expected something completely different! Bangkok was more like Hong Kong than what we'd come to expect, perhaps from our time in the Philippine Cities! The park was lovely and we couldn't believe how busy it was at 7am, full of joggers and groups of old Thai people practicing Yoga and Tai Chi on every corner, it was a real nice introduction to the city! The lake and streams ... read more

Hi all, Both me and Steve were sad to leave Ao nang, but it wasn't the same without the gang (Kajsa, Micke, Gunnel and Robert), we missed you guys terribly the last night. Just like to mention a funny thing that happened on the last night, my birthday. Me and Steve went to the local restaurang, the super nice waitress new us pretty well by then and new that it was my birthday. Everytime we had been to the restaurant during the two weeks we had been there we had ordered deep fried shrimps (the gang had too), so for my birthday she gave us deep fried shrimps and deep fried spring rolls, which was really nice, but me and steve was soooo full. We didn't want to seem rude and not eat the food, so ... read more

Hello From Thailand! From Clark (Phillipines) we flew to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), a four hour flight, with nothing to eat or drink except two donouts each =), which we managed to buy at the airport for our last phillipino money. Our plan was to catch the night train from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai in Thailand the same evening (14 hours), but we had been unable to buy a train ticket, so we didn't fancy our chances. We arrived at the train station later then we had expected because apparently there are two airports in KL (we didn't know), one for expensive flights and one for cheap flights (like with Ryanair). We landed on the cheap flight airport which was not connected with the airport express train, so we had to take the bus to the ... read more
