From Malapascua, we took the bus once again back to Cebu City, where we had booked a flight back to Boracay. When we arrived back at Frendz resort we got a really warm welcome from everyone, it felt great. Boracay was a lot busier than before, the beach and restaurants was full of people and the athmosphere was fantastic. The only problem was the weather, it was really windy and we were told that it had rained all christmas and it was not predicted to get any better. Me and Steve didn't feel too sad about this, we were just happy to be back in Boracay. The first morning we went back to our favourite place on the beach (in front of Zuzini, a very nice Greek restaurant) where we met some familiar faces, a Swedish ... read more

We've done some real traveling since our last blog. From Alona Beach we moved to a nearby village and had 3 nights at a real nice French owned place, Alumbung. The cottages were two story and really nice. Steves favorite thing was the outside shower in our own tropical garden! After a month of beach life we fancied a change so headed for the jungle on mainland Bohol. A short boat ride up the Loboc river (we felt like Bruce Parry on the Amazon) brought us to Nuts Huts, a place we'd heard a lot about. Nuts Huts is a hippie health retreat in the middle of nowhere. We were greeted halfway up the 250 steps to the reception by a 1 meter long iguana (between the eyes Eric!) very scary! The owner suggested that we ... read more

We arrived in Alona Beach on Panglao Island after a really comfortable 2 hour Supercat Ferry from Cebu. Alona Beach is really nice with white sand, not nquite as developed as Boracay but with plenty of restaurants and small hotels. The atmosphere here is more relaxed then on Boracay, dinner is a BBQ on the beach where you first select what you want from a huge table with everything from crabs, lobsters, all kinds of fish and different meat kebabs and then the cook it on the barbi (we've just finished dinner now, around 6 pounds including beers for the best food ever!). So, accomodation wise we first stayed at Alona Tropics (a nice resort) as arrived one day early. Then onto Hayahay, a small beach front hotel which is tied to Genesis Divers. These were ... read more

So the bus to Iloilo was a bumpy but interesting experience! When we finally arrived we jumped in the cloest taxi we could find and headed to our hotel, The Fine Rock. First impressions of Iloilo were dissapointing, we had expected a nice town centre but couldn't find a town centre anywhere it seemed to be just roads, roads and more roads. Not to worry we were looking forward to the nice hotel we had been recommended! On arriving at Fine Rock we felt quite confident the hotel was ok and thought what the hell, lets opt for a suite (it was only a pound more)! We were dreaming of fluffy pillows and a view of the harbour, oh how wrong we were. The "suite" would have been better described as a cell, no windows (not ... read more

The last week has been pretty cloudy, but still really warm. Me and steve have enrolled in a four day PADI open water course. The course includes both theory and practice. In the theory sessions we have watched videos and we have also been given a textbook to read in order to pass the exam. The practice part includes seven dives, four in open water. During the first couple of dives we had to learn different skills underwater, for example regulated recovery, what to do if you are out of air, how to clear your mask underwater and much more. Me and Steve have a private teacher, he is a cool and very relaxed german guy. But he didn't stay relaxed for long with me in the class, during the first real dive, I think I ... read more

After a long night of travelling, connecting in Manila airport, we arrived at Caticlan airport, which is the closest airport to Boracay. The luggage reclaim at Caticlan was a real experience, all the luggage was put on a shelf, in front of this shelf was about 50 people trying to push to the front to get their luggage. Steve was at the front of ques doing a pretty good job getting our bags. From Caticlan we took a nerve racking tricycle ride to the harbour where we had to buy three tickets, all in different places; One for the environment, on for tax and one for the boat. The boat trip to the island was very nice and quick, but it no longer stops at the different boat station, nowadays the boat only stop at the ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island November 25th 2008

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in posting this first real blog. We had a whirlwind couple of days iin Hong Kong and then spent a day travelling to Boracay where we are at the moment sat in the bar at Frendz Resort riding out the rain. Its throwing down buckets but its kind of surreal as its still really warm and apparently it will stop like a tap anytime now (dont feel bad for us its been glorious sunshine so far haha). So, we arrived in Hong Kong after a long but comfortable 12 hour journey. We decided to try to walk to our hotel from the train station, I don't know why? But it felt right at the time. We soon realised that Hong Kong was bigger than we thought and that our bags ... read more

The pre-holiday in Sweden went really fast, too fast for my liking. The last three days was very eventful, Kajsa and Mike came up from Linkoping, on Friday, just after Steve had managed to chop a bit of his finger off whilst chopping the peppers for the evening meal. Kristina (my mum) felt extremely guilty, because she was the one that had asked Steve to help out in the kitchen, Erik (my dad) was on the other hand very proud of the sharpness his knife (only kidding). The rest of the night Steve had to sit with his arm straight up in the air, drinking whiskey, a well known medicine in the Berglund family, to ease the pain. I can report, that Steve’s finger is healing well and should be fully better in a couple of ... read more

So its a myth that its either sunny or snowy here in Sweden! Its the first time I've been here in November and the weather is the same as we left back in England. So what do you do on a rainy winters day here in Sweden....go to a hockey game! Almtuna (Uppsala's team) v's Vestaras...a local derby game and my first proper hockey match. Almtuna took the lead in the first third only for Vasteras to pull level in the second, setting up a real battle in the final third. The local team managed to squeeze in a long range shot to take the lead and a held on to take the game 2-1 despite a final nailbiting powerplay with 7 seconds on the clock. Well, at least i think this is what happened, the ... read more
