Day 6 Jasper National Park (Friday) We awoke to rain this morning & it was a crazy day weather wise. I think this is how it is in the Canadian Rockies, rain/snow/sleet one hour, sunshine the next. We had a great day despite the weather. We started our day with a nice walk around this beautiful campground, then drove to the Jasper Sky Tram & rode a tram car up Whistler’s Mountain. This is Canada’s longest and highest guided aerial tramway tour, & goes up to 7500 feet. With Mike’s claustrophobia, he was not a fan of this idea, as they put 28 passengers in the cars that are approximately 5’x8’, but I am happy to report, he survived. :) The views were amazing, despite the sleet & snow coming down in such high elevation. We are connected to the world again at Starbuck's in Banff; hooray! We started our day yesterday driving north & had absolutely no problems crossing the border. We had an extremely good looking border patrol agent who was so nice. Since we plan on being gone from home 8 weeks, we brought extra Canadian Club whiskey along & planned to pay duty on our liquor at the border. We were delighted when the border agent told us we didn't owe anything & to go have a nice time! We made it through Calgary heavy traffic with no problems & arrived at our campground just outside Banff shortly after 2 o'clock. As we drove west from Calgary the vast prairies disappeared & the beautiful Rocky Mountains became visible in all their glory. The weather God's are smiling ... read more

Our Alaskan Adventure has begun! We left home at 8:30 this morning with our pickup & 5th wheel & had a good day's drive to Medora, ND. We are thrilled with the less expensive diesel this year! We filled in Bismarck for $2.59 per gal! Thanks to Gas Buddy we learned that the price of diesel was the cheapest in Bismarck at $2.59 per gal. Distance to empty was down to 20 miles when we reached the gas station! I certainly hope we aren't going to get that close to empty again? After getting settled into a very nice campground, expect for the howling like a dog karaoke singing near the office, Mike grilled a couple steaks on his new Weber grill. They were tasty!
