Hey Peter, yes I think we were both at the same talk. I remember that you had previously lived in El Sal and Karen said that you came back for a year. I also live in Leeds but am travelling for at least the next 6 months. Would be great to meet you for a drink when I return. El Sal is a great place and I already want to return

NOSTALGIA!
Hi Luke, I was thrilled to have your blog forwarded to me by another friend Miguel who is based in Suchitoto at weekeends and runs an eco-tourist business. I reckon you and I may have first heard Karen at the same talk. Compelling stuff which led to my spending 2008 out there, moving onto to the terreno, living up there in the hut with Tomas and busting a gut (literally) on soil conservation measures/planting zone 3. I live in Leeds. Do you? Maybe we could meet up for a beer and chat over dear friends and old times. Hasta lluego! Peter

dude
that place sounds incredible - in terms of the people I mean, the harsh difference in wealth is obviously terrible. You're seeing some amazing things dude. On a lighter note this particular blog appears to be mainly you showing off latino girls in photos with you!!!!

Mate, this is quite amazing! Looks like you're having a cool time. When you get somewhere where valium is legal can you post me some? Cheers :)

Hi Tom, thanks for your comment. I would say that if you haven't surfed recently or are not already good you would be better to dedicate at least a week to it, preferably more, but you'll have fun no matter how long. Sunzal point is much better for you than El Tunco beach itself - it's a short walk down the beach. El Sal is pretty small so you should have time to do a few places. Suchi is quiet but worth a visit - check out my next post, hopefully today. re: Camera - robbery at el tunco is very possible especially with an expensive camera. it's whatever you feel comfortable with - take it, make sure it's insured, and maybe don't take it out with you at night. a friend had a DSLR like yours and nothing happened, another friend had her compact taken from her bag in the daytime. You never know! You will definitely need to keep an eye on it! Let me know if you have any other questions.

going to ES
Hi: Thanks for the information. I am going next week to ES from the US for about 16 days and have not found a lot of current information on ES. Part of my plan is to visit Playa Tunco and also Suchitoto. Have you been to Suchi? I have surfed a bit before -- learned in Peru -- but have not done any recently so it depends on whether I have enough time to build strength, as you noted, for surfing. I am hoping to stay at one of the nicer places in Playa Tunco - either La Guitara or Tekvanikal. It was also good to know about taking a nice camera and possible robberies. I have a nice Nikon D40 and I have been debating about whether to take it or go with an inexpensive one that I own....

Hi Martin, thanks for the comment. I looked at a number of different teachers and decided to go for Raymond and Sylvia of Neo Salsa in Haban Vieja. I don't have the details to hand but you can get their flyer from the tourist office on Calle Obispo. I really recommend them, particularly cos you can work with both a male and female teacher, which is much better. you can dance with the female while the man walks round and corrects things that your dance partner can't see. All the other schools I saw used only one teacher. I would also recommend taking two hour lessons everyday until you've mastered the basics. one hour (the usual) is too short. it's quite hard and complicated so it's really worth sticking at it until you can do it. a couple of lessons just isn't enough. also go to loads of clubs to practice and have fun - both casa de la musicas, and club 1830, and hotel florida are all good in different ways. Have fun!!

Hey, spanish is going well thanks. I still need a lot of practice though! Most of the people I´ve met is all thanks to couch surfing, although I have met quite a few randoms on nights out too.
