After taking the wrong tube, the express and therefore missing our station, we at last made it to Best Buy. Here we quickly bought our Nüvi, as our new GPS system from Garmin is named. Then we made our way further uptown to Central Park. By then it was dark and the City started to light up in brilliant colours. We actually wanted to go skating in the park but we thought it might be safer to stay on the outskirts and not get lost in the dark. After a long walk in the freezing cold it was time to make our way back. This led us over the daylight bright Time Square and down Broadway. It was as you see it on TV but better. Unbelievable how colorful and bright everything is. You loose the ... read more

Chinatown To come out of the sub and to see that also the Mc Donalds is Chinese is fabulous for one who loves the Chinese food. It was a own and absolute new world, the charm of the typical old New Yorker Buildings with the Fire Stairs and all the Chinese culture in and by it was so great that we nearly get drive over while standing in the way with wide mouth open. Fried ducks in the windows, with big droppings of boiling fat falling to the ground, Chinese pharmacies and everywhere little stores with mystical things, spices, or, 2010, computer games and mobile Phones! I searched for my own Gremlin but it was too expensive. We both dreamed of a Knusperente Peking in original Chinatown in New York and, yes, we got one. And ... read more

Going to sleep at four in the morning, getting up at six a.m. and still being able to sleep in is great! We had to remember to turn the clock back six hours. Our only day in NY, thanx to KLM, was to be the very best we could make of it. It turned out to be better... We started with breakfast, what else? Just down the avenue at the corner of 35th Street we found this very NY place. Sitting between builders and street workers we enjoyed our watery coffee, egg wraps and ham steak to loud, classic music. We found out that the owner, a small smiley woman with Asian roots, was playing her sons music, a successful musician. Time to find out where we were and where we were going to. Actually NY ... read more

What is more frightening than flying extremely high over the Atlantic Ocean and the pilot saying that we have technical problems. Luckily only our reading lights and TV screens were affected! But I guess you can imagine how relaxed Olly was. I don't know what it's like with other companys but KLM might not be my no. 1 choice next time! When going to America be prepared to queue. It took us ONLY two hours from leaving the plane to leaving the airport. We luckily got through customs easily and had no other delays and problems. We landed at JFK and in the queue for immigrants&visitors we caught the attention of Kathi a really nice girl from Kärnten, Austria. She was on her way to meet a friend, an artist in New York. Hi Kathi! The ... read more

Well, what a surprise! First day, first catastrophe! Amsterdam, Amsterdam! or was it New York New York? Where to start? With the sudden blizzard in Hamburg, just as our plane was supposed to land? Maybe the half hour delay that turned out to be just over an hour? The very adventurous plane? Or that we did show up in Amsterdam in time for the plane to New York but weren't let through security? Well we are stuck in Amsterdam until tomorrow so we'll make the most of it! The coffee shops are too far away though! :) At least we got a good hotel and free nosh due to our bad temper! Vouchers galore! Problem was they thought our plane will be to late and so they took our luggage out of the plane and gave ... read more

13 Days left, then it's off on a ten hour flight to New York! Impossible to concentrate on Christmas and New Year now! I still can't believe we are doing this. Why on earth should somebody go on a road trip through the US, in no more than three weeks, in a minute car, in January? Well the answer is simple really: the flights were cheap. We still need sd-cards, compression stockings, adapters, rain coats and many more... It is freezing cold and snowing madly in the northern hemisphere... I'm getting kind of nervous! Olly is of course relaxed as can be. I wish now I were on his medication! Well, this is our very first blog. We will be keeping family, friends and anyone who is interested up to date about our little big adventure ... read more
