Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin September 19th 2013

We had an amazing time in Berlin. We stayed in the town of Charlottenburg just near to Charlottenburg Palace. There is plenty to do there and lots of history. We visited the Treptower Park where there is a huge monument which is really impressive. It’s not only the huge statue in the centre but also the big square with all carved tombs alongside of the square reflecting the soldiers battling Berlin. We also visited The Holocaust Memorial of different shapes and sizes of the tombstones is confusing. Worth spending a little time in peace there which makes you feel very sombre. When I walked through the tallest tombstone I felt as though they stood in silent of past wrongs. The closeness of the blocks can seem intimidating. It is a strange memorial. We travelled around on ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Dolomites July 3rd 2013

Hiking in the Dolomites is superb and suitable for all abilities with optional Via Ferrata adventure. You need to be sure-footed and have a head for heights for Via Ferrata but the excitement of negotiating the protected scrambling routes is unbeatable. Originally built to assist the movements of military units in WW1, Via Ferrata is the key Dolomites attraction. It is a breath taking network of scrambling routes, comprised of skilfully installed fixed cables, ladders and gorge-spanning bridges, which aid ascents to dramatic summits. We spent one week in suitable accommodation with breathtaking views locally sourced food freshly cooked for us daily. I travelled with a group of 30 all of different levels and abilities from all corners of the globe. A definate feel good factor on return.... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cumbria » Grasmere April 5th 2013

We had a fantastic time during our stay in the Lake District. To enable us as much flexibilty as possible we hired a camper van to travel arround in. There are many wild camping area's in the Lakes some more private than others. We were fortunate to have fantastic weather throughout our stay which provided us with some great opportunities to do a few hikes. The towns are packed with tourists regardless of where you go. We visited Ulswater, Kendle, Windermere, Keswick, Ambleside, Coniston, Grassmere and Glenriding. All offer the most superb scenery. ... read more

Europe » Iceland » Southwest » Reykjavík March 1st 2013

What a fantastic place to visit. Although when travelling from the airport the scenery looks quite grim, when arriving to the main town of Reykjavik the views are fabulous. There are some amazing volcanic hikes to do and many tours to take. We chose to go whale watching but didn't spot any whales or any fish for that matter! Wherever you go staff cannot do enough to help you. in March time the temperature mirrored that of the UK and was a consistent 3 deg. The Golden Circle tour is well worth it as there are some fantastic views and the Geysir spouting hot springs are fantastic to see. We chose to do this tour on our own rather than with a group which gave us more flexibility. The Blue Lagoon is another great place to ... read more
