I've just finished my History and Politics degree, and now I'm heading back to northern Tanzania this summer after an amazing experience out there last year with Working in Tandem (WiT), a student-led charitable organisation based the University of Nottingham. I can't wait to get back and project lead for WiT at it's three partner projects in Kisongo near Arusha. You can keep track of all the goings on from the big yellow house and the projects right here...

I was never going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and witnessing it this weekend in all its immense glory confirmed to me why. Moshi sits at the foot of Africa's highest mountain and has a far more relaxed atmosphere to Arusha. The city benefits from the fertile ground provided by the dormant volcano. There's isn't much to do in Moshi apart from chill out, but I think that's is just what we needed. I met everyone in Dar Es Salaam from their flight in the early hours of Monday morning after spending 3 hours stood out side the airport because their flight was delayed. I'd spent 12 hours recovering from my flight and generally making friends with the hotel staff who were incredibly attentive because I'd just handed over $400+ for 14 people to stay there!! Monday was spent just relaxing in Dar, which is Tanzania's buzzing commercial metropolis. To be honest I'm not sure what there is to do there ... read more

This is possibly the first time someone has blogged on here from Grimsby! It's been a manic week of preparation but I'm now just about feeling ready to go. All the essentials are packed with just a few more things to buy. All the volunteers are (hopefully) as prepared as they're ever going to be for what will inevitably be a culture shock. I remember this time last year when this complete experience was a giant leap into the unknown. Something I never expected I'd ever do was actually happening. Now, I have the benefit of experience, but with such a different role this year and far more responsibility I feel just as nervous as before. That said, the excitement and longing to be there is also twice as much as before! I fly on Saturday, ... read more
