Glad to hear you're doin well! i've done a bit of rowing myself, so i know where you're coming from. but then again, my trips were always on lighter, aluminum canoes which are nowhere near the size or bulkiness of a dragon boat though, by the sound of it. ive got a friend from penn state who lives in Taiwan who's been to several of the places you've taken pictures of and written about. when i asked him about chicken town though he had no idea, he looked at me like i was crazy, haha. anyways, wear your stache proudly! when are you coming back?
leii boooweeen hao pengyou! exciting changes in your life! the moustache is always a great choice, but it better not take away from your will to partake in next moustache november, for i can grow a nice mexistache now!I especially like your spoon picture, it highlights the moustaches impeccable grooming and shape. the dragon boat festival race sounds awesome..we actually learned a little bit about the festival in chinese last semester. keep us updated, i would love to hear how the festival went.
take care and best of luck,
kaaaang booooorui
P.S. when will you write a blog in zhongwen? im sure your chinese is ridiculous now.
moustaches well, we're all entitled to youthful hijinks (or hair-jinks), i suppose...but why can't we see a *real* picture of your moustache? are you so ashamed you have to hide it in the distortions of a spoon? :P
Stumbled Upon Your writing is well thought out and very enjoyable to read. I was looking for places to go and things to do at Sun Moon Lake, and your entry not only gave me ideas, but was inspiring. Look forward to reading your other adventures.
don't forget your towel next time! It sounds like your day was a blessing in disguise. That guy sounds kind of weird for trying to be helpful for sure, but how hospitable (or at least friendly) are most of the locals? Also, you would think there would be some kind of trail guides, markers on trees or maps or something, to help you find your way. It's pretty cool that you're getting out and about and discovering all these things on your own. Lovin the blogs, esp. the pics. That pic of the spider is sick by the way.
It's great that you can just wander around even if it is not too productive. In Cape Town, walking around the city alone will lead to many people asking you for money. There's lots of nice hiking on Table Mountain, but it's not particularly safe to go alone. "Tikheads", people addicted to crappy, impure crystal meth are known to commonly hang out in the mountains and are not the most pleasant people to meet on a trail with no one else around. Wandering alone at night is just considered foolish. I've enjoyed South Africa immensely, but I miss being able to wander.
Did you ever figure out why everyone had towels?
Beautiful pictures. I like the lookout. What are the 7-11s like in Taiwan? In South Africa the 7-11s have blue signs and no slurpies. Part of me likes to think that many different cultures independently decided that 7-11 would be a great name for a convenience store.
! I love your entries, and your photos are incredible! My dad saw your dad the other day, he said he's coming over to visit you? I'm jealous. Anyway, keep up the adventures :)
love from belgium,

To fruits from toots It looks like you're off to an amazing start on your journey in Taiwan! I hope the experience continues to be awesome, stay safe and healthy! Also, Baye Shan's parents said they would be happy to help you out if you need anything at all, so I will email their contact info. They're incredibly nice, hit them up if you want a free dinner, need a place to stay, or feel the need for some parental guidance!
