When we planned this trip we read a lot of Internet traffic bemoaning how boring Brussels is. We felt this seemed a little unfair. How can a city which is famous for chocolate, waffles, mussels, chips doused in mayonaise, biscuits, and lacemaking and filled with French restaurants and patisseries possibly be boring???? On our first night we rounded the corner from our apartment near the main square and were met by the enticing sight of a bustling cobbled street lined with gorgeous bistros with red and white checked table cloths and selected the location of Evans flirtation with the local specialtiy of 'poules und frites' ( mussels and French fries).
