Hahaha love your blog so funny! Going to Iceland in March so getting some ideas of places to stay and stuff to do, your trip sounds perfect how much was your skidooing? Who did ya do it with? Any recommendations of places to stay? That rango hotel looks sweet , kate xx
Iceland Hi,
Apologies, I hope I haven't missed you (and if I have, you're already there).
Hotel Ranga was great (bit pricey though, but then so is Iceland). Out in the middle of nowhere, the stars were fantastic. great place for aurora spotting. You must visit the Blue Lagoon (though you probably know that), and the Golden Circle (Geiser, GullFoss Waterfall and Thingvellir) was mind blowing. You'll need to hire a car though.
I have a couple of other blogs on here if you're interested. A world trip - www.mytb.org/on-the-blog and a whale watching trip in the Azores - www.mytb.org/CallMeIshmail (still here actually). I haven't sorted out how to put multiple trips under one URL yet !!
Anyway, sorry for the delay, and enjoy Iceland (I know you will).
Cheers,
Joe
Spoton with the geology Iceland very very new rock erupted at surface, Lakes is the exposed root of mountains as high as Himmalyia eroded over by 400ma esp by glaciers in last 2ma, Iceland sounds like a geologists heaven one day
LHmm auroral ovals at night, thats my sort of perversion. Glas you got to see. Can sympathise with the photographic experience Ive got many beautiful images of blackness. Keep up the reportage xx
lost photo op Red wine at night....aurora not so bright. Lucky to see anything -
No Earth facing flares. Earth facing coronal holes only mildly energetic.
Pedestrian solar wind. What the hell is producing the aurora?
Has the planet's magnetic shield become so weak? Have you drunk the hotel
bar dry yet? x
Drinking Hotel Dry Too expensive to even try I'm afraid. Resorted to drinking wine out of bottles in brown paper bags round the back of the Skidoo sheds. x
LavaTubes!! "they say the magma tunnels actually join up with magma tunnels from Mount Etna in Italy!! " Hmm whoever they are I dont believe theyre up to speed with modern geological thought. Still an entertaining idea. Blog well up to usual excellent standards, keep it up xx
Oh dear! Dare I comment about the lack of....er.....poetry? Or are you having trouble with rhyming grey?
Have a great time and don't look at spaceweather.com.....it doesn't look ideal but you never know.
X
