What movies did you see?? I hope you have fun in Cape Town! We are all counting down the days :) I got to see mama again today! She said she had just gotten off the phone with you. Well it sounds like you are meeting some amazing people. Can't wait until the 4th! I got your letter today :)
It's been so awesome reading all of your entries..I try to imagine all of the situations that you've been through there, and it seems like you have learned so so much! And that you've really taken advantage of your time there! Have a great last few days!!!
Great Expereience Well sweetie, trip coming to an end. I'm sure you have learned so much and will use that knowledge upon your return home. Can't wait to see you. I know your Mom can't wait. It sounds like you've made a good impression on everyone and they in turn to you. Knowledge is something you can't lose unless your my age (sometimes). Love you lots. Did you use every empty space on Dabs the Bear? See you soon.

Nana and Pop pop
Unselfishness Krista....I am Dave from Applebees here in Jacksonville. Your mom told me about your travel blog and I have been reading it every now and then. It is so good to meet such an unselfish young person like you. I know your mom is very proud of you and she misses you very much. Hope you have a safe trip home next week and hope to see you when you get back......take care....David Williams
upington its great what you did for the people in upington. however, ive been there for eight years and its a tough life. people get all in your business and the amount of gossiping is amazing!
MY Hat off to the Social Worker I pray her strength and appauld her deciation in all she does and thoses she serve. That a Girl to Krista for having the courage to go to SA to assist in making a diference in other lives.
the president our president is NOT an educated man. he is a dimwit. I worked as a teacher in upington for 10 years and i can relate to the circumstances that you are describing. what this country needs is greater incentives for medical professionals to go work in places like upington.
Last Days Krista,
Sounds like you are getting a life's education during your stay there. Told you it would be life changing. So proud of all the work and good you are doing there. Wishing you safe and great times during your remaining days and a safe flight home to us.
big bear hug,
Daddy Dab

May 9th I was just telling someone today about your internet issues and how you get booted off and have to retype everything. That sucks! I guess we should not expect great internet out there. I look forward to hearing about all your experiences and think it's great you are able to interview some of the people out there. Keep up the good work and stay safe. I love you and miss you lots! Mama
Krista, I have been keeping up with your blog, I'm so proud of you !! and your awesome once in a life time experience and having a heart to take on this volunteer opportunity to help so many in need, YOU GO Girl, take care.

You are such an inspiration to everyone here! I am so proud of you and have been bragging about what you are doing to everyone. I think it is amazing that you are making such an impact, learning so much, and teaching all of us!
Catching up I am "facebook challenged"...just ask Scooter. I just read all of you blog. I am so proud of you and the decisions you have made. I know you are making a diffence on each person you meet and on that area of the world. Keep making good choices, and remember the rules: Be good, be careful and have fun! I love you!
Interesting!!!!! Hey Sweetie, your sure giving us a lot of info. It's amazing how things are sooo different in other countries. You really never think about what we have (cars. roads, hospitals, doctors, nurses) and what other people don't have. Thanks for being you and what you are trying to do. Very, very, very proud of you. Has it gotten a little bit warmer? Can't wait to see you again. Lots of love, Nana and Pop Pop (ps thanks for Pop Pop's card).
WOW! Hey Krista!
Thanks for keeping up with your blog :) It is so, so interesting to read about all of the ethnic/racial tensions that are still present in South Africa. You must be learning so much! I can't wait to hear more about your adventures! Peace <3
Hey honeeee I am so proud of you! You are an amazing person. And npo I don't have to say that because you're my daughter. I know that I am very lucky to have you as my daughter. Everyone who comes into contact with you is also lucky. You went out there with the right mindset and you will come back with even more to give due to your experiences.
Love you and miss you lots!
Good to Hear From You Great entry Krista. You will also find the number of women raped and contracting HIV to be very prevalent also. When I was there in the 90s almost 1/2 the women I met had been raped at some point during their life.
Thanks for sharing this information. Not only has the trip revealed social injustice and ignorance to you but all of us through your blog.
wishing you health, hope and happiness.
big bear hug,
Daddy Dab
This summer I will be volunteering in Jacksonville, FL and Upington, South Africa. For the first two weeks of my project (May 4-May 15), I will be volunteering at Lutheran Social Services with the AIDS Care and Education Program in Jacksonville. I will be shadowing a mental health counselor/case manager and working closely with HIV/AIDS patients in the local community. I will then be volunteering in South Africa from May 18-July 2. I will be working with Christanna, a home based care organization that provides clients who have HIV/AIDS and their families with support and education. I will also... full info
