Good to Hear From You I know this is a life changing experience for you. Even though I went as an adult in my early 30s and had already been living with HIV for many years. I was shocked at some of the conditions, the lack of care and everything was still very segregated back then so eating together was not allowed which was sad.
Take care of yourself and be safe.

Great Work! It appears you are adjusting into your "New World"... and doing a great job. I am sure the patients there really look forward to seeing you and that you can provide them with the empathy they need. You have a really big heart, our clients here were able to pick up on your sincererity and kindness, I know the patients there will also. Keep up the good work. We are proud of you! Stay Safe.
That's My Girl We are soooo proud of you. Keep telling everyone what your doing. Your just the most amazing young woman. I know you can listen and help people adjust as much as they can to their problems. Setting up a support group won't faze you at all. I'll think of you when I'm under "covers". Aren't you glad you took all different clothes. Can't wait to read your next blog. Take care and hugs to you. Love and kisses, Nana and Pop Pop
Sounds AWESOME WOW - It sounds really cool there, glad you are enjoying it. So cool to experience other cultures. As to the Monkeys, I see Nana said "no", but I'll take two if you can catch them and sneak them home. Take full advantage of every minute you have there so you have no regrets - you can sleep all you want when you get home ( : Stay safe - can't wait to hear more and to see some pics.
Good job Krista! How big are the "neighborhoods" were the shacks are? I couldn't imagine living in a what basically sounds like a metal shed, which i imagine would just amplify whatever the outside conditions are!
Hey honeee! Maybe we can help by sending blankets out there! Let us know and I am sure something can be organized even if we do it after you get back. I am glad you get to email more often, that way I know you are doing OK. I look so forward to hearing about your experiences and seeing all the pictures. I love you and miss you lots!!!! Love, Mama
Hey Honeeeeee I miss not talking to you every day. I wish you could tell me about everything you are doing every day like you do at home. I know you are so excited about all the experiences you are having. I am excited for you too! Stay safe! I love you and miss you very much!! Love, Mama
Markham????? So you found a store and went shopping already? HaHa! Did you like anything in your namesake store? Sounds like your going to have a fantastic time. Monkeys running around all the time, you must feel right at home, ha ha. Make sure Dab is getting a lot of attention. Miss you, can't wait to see you again, don't get attached to any animal, you "can't" bring it home. Love and kisses, Nana
It sounds like you are adjusting wonderfully! You will be happy to know you are missing absolutely nothing but a lot of rain and bad weather here so enjoy every day! : ) I can't wait to see the pictures! Miss you!! Did you get to do any of the things on your list while you were in Capetown??
Proud of You Make sure you keep a journal of everything you do and see. Later in life you'll have a beautiful book of your life and marvel as we do of all the things you've done. Glad your safe and sounds like you have a good Momma Minini. Look forward to reading your blog. Have a great time, love ya loads and see ya when you get home. Love and kisses, Nana and Pop Pop
Wow. Sounds like you are having quite an experience!!! Just so you know you had a check at work which I am giving to Mama to put in your account! Exciting eh? lol. Well, I can't wait to see your next post!
Hey honeee! I am so glad to hear you have a decent place to stay and are with good people. I can't have anything happen to my baby! You are right about taking things for granted. We should all be thankful for what we have. I promise to make sure your shower is nice and hot and ready for your arrival back home. Tell Dab to keep you comfy and to give you lots of hugs for me. I'm sure he is taking care of you. I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!! MISS YOU LOTS TOO!!!
Love,
Mama

This summer I will be volunteering in Jacksonville, FL and Upington, South Africa. For the first two weeks of my project (May 4-May 15), I will be volunteering at Lutheran Social Services with the AIDS Care and Education Program in Jacksonville. I will be shadowing a mental health counselor/case manager and working closely with HIV/AIDS patients in the local community. I will then be volunteering in South Africa from May 18-July 2. I will be working with Christanna, a home based care organization that provides clients who have HIV/AIDS and their families with support and education. I will also... full info
