London Great! I feel all caught up on these trips now - your journeys there, time on retreats, and journeys back again. I often pass through St Pancras and King's Cross Stations on my way to and from Sheffield, but I have rarely been behind them. Your blog has given me inspiration to explore a bit more there! The Coal Drops Yard area looks lovely, and a good haven for you as you bridged the gap between quiet retreat and busy London. Great photos from the London Eye!
Re: London Thank you for coming along on my trips and for commenting. I think I would not have gone to explore Coal Drops Yard had I not had my hotel just around the corner and had the other retreatant not recommended it to me. I very much enjoy exploring sites off the beaten tracks, hope you will enjoy the area too when you get there.
Re: The Beauty of Switzerland Thanks for joining me on this trip! Yes, the café and refreshments were nice and gave us a break to digest some of our experiences.
Holy Island Thank you Katha. I'm afraid I didn't write a blog entry on my time on Holy Island. Some day I think I'll write up on my other travels that I have done outside of TB. All the best.
Re: Holy Island Okay, thanks for letting me know. Yes, there is always so much more that one could write about... So, I will keep following your more recent trips.
Peaceful Ah, so peaceful just simply reading this blog. The photos also add magic to the place. I understand the beautiful feeling of walking in the fog, I enjoy this myself too. And thank you for the reminder that England does have this fantastic and very deep spiritual sense that you can find between the urban busy-ness. Lovely to read about your retreats. I used to attend Triratna Buddhist sessions here in Croydon, and also visited Holy Island once just off the coast of the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Thank you for the reminders of the value in meditation. A lovely blog to read.
Re: Peaceful Thank you so much for the appreciative words, Alex. Yes, there can be so much magic, peace and quiet out there when one is open to it. Nice to learn that you are not only a fellow TBer, but also a fellow meditator. If you have a blog post on your visit to Holy Island, do let me know. I would love to read it.
Going with the flow We all know our travels will not be smooth every trip but you seem to have trouble with Brussels. Ugh. How frustrating. I'm glad you enjoyed your time. I liked the street performer.
Thanks for the memories... My first visit to Brussels was to the 1958 Worlds Fair. Then I lived there from 1984 to 1995. I so miss the Belgian waffles!
Re: Thanks for the memories... Thanks for coming along and commenting. I'll have to find your posts from your time in Brussels on your blog, look forward to learning what the city was like then :-)
Travel Stress Oh my goodness, I felt stressed just reading about your trips to Brussels! The first one seemed so straightforward, but then I read your second and third! I remember similar train issues just travelling in and around Cologne last June, from strikes to delays to cancellations. I can't imagine what it must be like travelling further with them. It seems like you got the most out of Brussels while you were there though, and so glad you got to visit Atomium in the end! Well done, your struggles seemed to pay off!
Re: Travel Stress Thank you for following my trip in spite of the rather unpleasant journey. I can imagine your trip to Cologne must have been an adventure as well, but not one of the nice kind. Travelling with Deutsche Bahn has turned into a nightmare indeed, and I must confess that I do not enjoy travelling as much anymore as I used to. Also because flying has turned into a real hassle. But when I read everyone's stories here on TB, I feel inspired again. And the city of Brussels was well worth a visit, especially Grand-Place and Atomium :-)
I started this blog in late 2007, before heading off to Australia for a hang gliding adventure. After my first solo flight in a hang glider all I wanted to do was fly as much as possible. I gave up my job as a human resources consultant and headed to Australia to live my dream of hang gliding. When I returned after four months, I wanted to build my life around the sport I loved so much, and I did. I was also determined to make it into the national hang gliding team and started flying competitions with only one year of flying experience.
