Inside Jaisalmer fort the streets are very narrow and you find yourself constantly trying to avoid motorcyclists, cows, cowpats and the shopkeeepers. We looked at a few of the havelis, houses built by wealthy merchants during the eighteenth and nineteenth century. In the carving of the Nathmalji-ki-Haveli, two brothers competed against each other, each taking half of the building to prove which of them was the better craftsman. On first impressions the two sides appear to be the same but there are lots of subtle differences. Before sunset the tour group went up to a nearby vantage point for a good view of Jaisalmer fort.
