So, this weekend I hugged a tree, literally. On Saturday we went to the Biosphere Reserve in en Tehuacan. It was thousands and thousands of different cactus plants and we had a guide that showed us around and talked about all the different types and what they are used for medicinally or as hallucinogens. There was one tree that he told us would take away all of our negative energies and replenish our positive energies if we hugged it, so we all took turns hugging it. Caitlin, Alyssa, Pam, and I circle hugged the tree (unfortunately I don’t have a picture of it and either way I was on the back side so you would not be able to see me anyways). I have to say that I do not think the tree hug worked or ... read more

“Que no caigan en la bajada, ni en la subida del camino. Que no encuentren obstaculos, ni detras ni delante de ellos, ni cosa que los golpee. Concedeles buenos caminos, hermosos caminos planos.” - Popol-Vuh So occasionally I wonder what am I doing here? I have my moments where I just want to reject everything about my current situation. The next day I love everything about where I am or the place that I am visiting. It is funny because Cholula has become the place that I can consider home. I was away for 8 days of 10 last week (it was not spring break, just a normal week in Mexico) and I was looking forward to being back in my Mexican house. As I think back to the first two weeks and how I ... read more

Hola again, I am still here, alive and well. Speaking of alive and well I spoke to my friend Ben a couple days ago, who is in Prague, and I was very happy to hear that he is alive and well. Anyways not to much has been going on here in Mexico, getting into a fairly normal schedule here. I do know, however, that it will be ruined starting this weekend, but I am happy about that. Last Friday we went to Puebla to see the Museo Amparo and the Talavera (pottery Puebla is famous for) factory and I do not have any pictures to share with you or really anything to tell you about it. It really wasn't too exciting. On Saturday, here at UDLA (Universidad de Las Americas) there was a big event for ... read more

So once upon a time I was studying Spanish in the country called Mexico when I decided to go home to the United States to see my family. I thought that I was not going to come back to Mexico, so I bought an apartment. The apartment was a townhouse with three floors and I decided to renovate it to fit my tastes. A couple days later a good friend of mine heard I was in town and came over to see my new apartment. However, this was interesting because I had not seen this person since 8th grade. He convinced me that I needed to return to Mexico to finish out my semester there. I said I would return, only under the conditions that he join me, so we hopped on a plane to Mexico. ... read more

So I know it has been about a week since my last update, but I figured that anyone reading this probably would not care so much about my day-to-day whereabouts. Just to put a picture in your head, I am sitting on my rooftop terrace on a beautifully clear day. There is not a cloud in the sky, it is probably 75-80 degrees with a light breeze. To my left I have an unobstructed view of the snowcapped, active volcano of Popocatépetl (if you are interested we can hold an hour long class to practice the pronunciation) and to my right a have a perfect view of Malinche, a gorgeous mountain we have wanted to climb since we’ve been here. I also have a view of Nuestro Señora de los Remedios, a 1874 church that sits ... read more

Hey there! So, the biggest update is that I moved. As I told you all before my family was going through a hard time and I was sort of isolated and alone, but now I am living with a new family and a girl from Delaware. It is really great, because even though I am living with another Delaware student we speak mostly in Spanish in the house and she is at a higher level of Spanish so she is able to help me. I am also just a 5 minute walk to campus and a 5 minute walk across campus, which is great because I can run home and come back when I need something and it is down a short main road with a lot of people, so I feel much safer. I will ... read more

I feel like I should have a shirt that says "I survived Acapulco." Wow, Acapulco was crazy. I keep thinking about the city of Acapulco and I really cannot get over the number of people that were there; I cannot even begin to imagine what that place is like during spring break time. We got into Acapulco on Friday, Feb. 13th early in the morning around 7:15 and just did as much as we possibly could until we arrived back in Puebla this morning at about 5:30. At this point in the afternoon (almost five), I feel as though I was in Acapulco about a month ago. This is pretty much how the first week in general went. I feel as though the trip is going so slowly and like I have been here for much ... read more

OK, so everything is still going really well here. Yesterday, after classes, lunch, and our meeting, I went over to my friend Tony's homestay to watch the soccer game between Mexico and the United States (U.S. won 2-0!). Tony's family was amazing, they were so nice and they kept telling me "es tu casa" (it's your house). It think his family actually thought I was funny, because we laughed for like 5 hours straight. We watched the game and talked with his parents about spring break and what we were thinking about doing. Some people want to go down to the Yucatan Peninsula to spend the weekend at the beach and some want to backpack around Chiapas and to me both sound like great ideas. I am trying to decide which I would rather do, they ... read more

Hey everyone, I am not planning on updating this everything single day, but I would like to update you as I am getting accustomed to life here, meeting new people, and learning new things. I am mainly writing (for a second time tonight because the other one did not publish) to put up some photos of the school. I brought my camera today and I took a lot of pictures. Most of the pictures are just of different areas of the school, but one is of some of my classmates in class, some are of the place where we sit to have coffee in between classes, some are of the crazy birds, some are of the cafeteria, where we go to lunch, and some are of my walk to school. I am pretty sure that you ... read more

So I am here; I made it to Mexico and actually I am starting to get accustomed to this new world that I am in. By the way, it is freezing at night and in my house and I am not very well prepared for that. Luckily my host family gave me a small heater (which is keeping me warm right now) and three blankets and a comforter. Anyways, we got in late on the 8th of February and met our families at the school. That night I really could not see the school, because it was dark, but my host mother and sister said that it is very beautiful. I have since been to the campus in the daylight and it really is incredible. It is a real Mexican college campus (whereas in Spain we ... read more
