The Hellenistic religion was practiced by the Greeks and the Roman Empire during the Hellenistic period between 300 BCE to 300 CE. Nothing significant is different about this religion, the same Greek gods and goddesses were worshiped; however, they did have some 'different' additions to the original Olympians. These new additions included Egyptian gods and goddesses of Isis and Serapis, as well as the Syrian gods of Atargatis and of Hadad. These gods and goddesses were "added" to the religion because it gave people more into looking forward into the afterlife since these gods and goddesses represented aspects of the present day as well as the afterlife. Some rulers during this period where supposedly "chosen" by the gods; this is called 'divine right'. Also, during this period people used figurines, charms, and consulted oracles in order ... read more

Hello there my dear Antony, As you may have realized, I have organized something among with the guys. You may have noticed that I am not referring to myself in third person, well, I just do that in public- makes me feel powerful and important, you know? It's a problem I have- I had a rough childhood. Anyway, I got my right hand man Brutus to come along to have a cup of the finest wine there is. He is a very good friend of mine and I trust him to the fullest. I actually want you to come along too to join us. My wife has been having a lot of strange dreams lately, not sure how I should take it her way or take it another person's way who just proposed this idea not ... read more

Though I have visited many places and saw many cultures, including my own in Poland, I did not experience that much of a happy feeling that made me glad to see that part of the culture. There as been one ad I can describe it vividly. Believe it or not, it is the culture in Chicago. Even though I was born in Midway, which is very close to Chicago, I never really felt like a Chicagoan. One of the reasons why I joined Muchin was that it was a city atmosphere. I would have to rely on public transportation and would have to responsible when it came to wondering around the city alone. The first day I rode on the CTA, I puked, (sorry, but it's true), but as time progressed and I got use to ... read more

After reading the article of the week, I can predict that Greece is trying at an attempt of democracy. Of course, I can just say, "Oh hey, Greece is just like America right now; pretty deep in the hole!" But I'm not sure if that is true. Yes, the US of A already has some of their own problems but right now in Greece it's something more twisted. Of course, I mean this by everyone is scrambled around frantically unable to find themselves. We have a name like, "Golden Dawn" which sounds like some kind of hippie movement that is using violence to get their point across. We have Communists there, and of course, why not blame this all on Neo-Nazism? I am familiar with young people in Greece acting a bit more onto a Neo-Nazi ... read more

We all know that Iraq and the United States are two separate countries. Though they both have a Constitution granting certain "freedoms" to the people of the country, there is one law/idea that differs between the two. In the United States we have the freedom of religion so citizens can believe whatever they choose. In Iraq they also have freedom of religion stated into their Constitution! Then what is the difference? Well, the United States doesn't have a national religion whereas Iraq does, and that's Islam. Though the United States didn't make any laws that goes against any kind of religion, in Islam there is a law that prevents any law from going against their national religion. Despite these two may sound strikingly familiar, in Iraq there is a specific law that doesn't allow anything to ... read more

It's very sad to see this event happen in our nation's history. Of course, there are positives and downsides in history everywhere, but this event was more like a gash that just will take forever to heal. My mom, quite remembers it as if it were yesterday. I even remember it and I was barely four. My mom said that I was with her as we watched this girl while the girl's mother was at work. The girl's name was Maggie, and my mom and us two were playing when the mother called, telling my mom to turn on the TV. That's when I saw the second plane hit the building, and though I didn't know what was going on, Maggie's mother come from work very quickly and sent my mother and I back home- because ... read more

Wow, something must be wrong with me, huh? Canada again?! But yes, I actually want to go to the University of Toronto in Canada. Why do I want to go to this university? (Which is in Toronto by the way.) Well, to start off, I'd like to thank Cedric that he convinced me to consider this university. He is currently attending this university; hence, he tells me all about it. I really like the idea of going to Canada because it's not really in such an economic mess as the United States, not to be harsh to the USA, and there are jobs in Canada, especially in the specialties that I want to do in the future. Here is what Cedric said, regarding dorms and a brief description of some of the things in the university. ... read more

It's been awhile now since I really wanted to visit Canada. I do not really know why I have this feeling of wanting to go there very badly, it's just that I really do want to go there. I guess it's because it's closer than it seems, and I have a friend there named Cedric who has been talking about it a lot and I'm starting to like the idea of Canada. As I heard it, Canada is very similar to Poland, as in the views and the stars, and though that's not the primary reason I would go to Canada, I do respect the fact that there is nature there just like it is in Europe. Manitoba is flat, a lot of flat land to say the least. Nevertheless it's usually cold in Canada (what ... read more

Finally home… Not really my real home, but I’ve always felt at home in Bielanka. I’m here to visit family for a whole month, and I’ve been here for almost every summer for 9 years straight. This is my 10th time in Poland and it has a special place in my heart as I accustomed to the farm life despite me being more of a ‘city boy’. What is so good about living near the mountains? The sights. It is simply breathtaking. You can always go for a hike on the paths in the forest and be engulfed by nature and the clean air. That’s what I always loved about Poland; I can see the millions of stars at night, almost every night too. You can’t do that back in Chicago, not in a thousand years. ... read more

It’s nice to see another country, especially one that I’ve never even thought of visiting in the first place. My uncle called me and asked if I wanted to go somewhere, he was extremely vague, as I it were a surprise and I agreed. This time I was not accompanied by my mother, but instead, I was with my cousin, Patrycja and Uncle Jacek. I had to wake up at 3:30am when he picked me up for our trip. He told me inside the car that we’d be going to Ukraine; hence, we had to leave now if we wanted to get there before noon. The drive itself, I would say, was probably the most fun, where my cousin and I sang along with the songs on the radio and laughed at anything. The weather in ... read more
